I knew this was going to happen eventually as I know we outlive our pets but today, that didn't prepare us for having Poppy put down.

She started getting sick around the end of August. At first, we thought it was the heat and did what we could to keep her cool. Not working so we took her to the vet's. At the time, we figured that what Poppy went through before we got her may have been catching up to her so the vet recommended special food and medication to help her out.

Long story short, despite the medication she was given, she continued getting worse so a couple of blood tests were done. First one showed high white cell count and that she was anemic. She kept losing weight and was panting constantly. After the second one was done, we got the sad news yesterday that she has cancer.

She went quickly and peacefully with both Shutterbug and I there. The vet and his assistant were very compassionate. Place is very quiet at this time. For now though, we're not going to be getting another dog as we're living with family. When we get our own place again, then yes, I believe we'll be getting another rescue. Lot of memories going through our heads now. Would have been 10 years since we got her come November.

R.I.P. Poppy. Till we meet again.

I'm sorry bud. Damn little in life hurts more than losing a good dog. Holly passed in June after 14 good years. Take all the time you need, however long that may be, and then open up to the idea of another, and another will find you. Give the next one the home and the love you gave Poppy and have another 10 great years. Peace.
