Breaking in 2017.... < on 1/22/2017 6:11 PM > | Reply with Quote
...not literally, I hasten to add!!
It's felt very good to get out exploring again. I've been suffering some health issues at present which has made me feel very disinclined to explore anything but lately I've been feeling a little better so thought what better use of my time during a miserable January than to go on a little day trip. It was most successful with three explores done and I had a jolly good time, albeit still feeling quite rubbish.
This was one of those 'turn up blind and hope for the best' places which I wasn't even certain would still be standing. A planning application was approved in June last year for demolition of the factory buildings and construction of new houses as well as conversion of the 18th century manor house which forms the frontage. It looks like workers had got as far as taking up most of the upstairs floors of the house before downing tools and leaving, and so it sits to this day.
The manor house was built in the 18th century and occupied by the same family until 1940 when it was bought by a cable manufacturing company. Their own factory had been bombed in the war and they were after a remote location so this was perfect. It continued to produce automotive cable parts and other similar stuff until 2007 when they closed and relocated to a smaller factory in a town nearby.
Having been sat for almost a decade now it's in a bit of a mess but most of it looks like natural decay, granted there are the usual broken windows and metal fairy stripping but other than that it's pretty solid for the most part, although parts of the upstairs floors (or whats left of them!) are slanted worryingly to one side.

Now that's post-apocalyptic... it looks kinda rural, is it possible to look off the property and see no signs of civilization? That huge garage brings the abandonment camping thread to mind

It's near a fair sized town but stuck out in the middle of nowhere down a long track with only two active farms for company, so it's nicely isolated. I guess it's that isolation which has kept it relatively un-messed with.
