Abandoned House of Crosses

A while back my exploring partner was scanning Google Maps and came across a house that looked to be abandoned from the sky and from the road, he took a drive to check it out on the way to another house and had discovered that it was in fact abandoned, and full of very interesting things left behind.

The following weekend we headed out on a road trip and ended up spending a very good majority of the morning in this house.

I would certainly rank this one in my top ten of abandoned houses explored and photographed.

From the mix of colours, the exposed ceiling from crumbling drywall, the cracks in the drywall, the beds in each room and antique dressers. Every room had at least one cross hanging on the wall, some rooms had crosses hanging from the doorknobs. Oddly I found an orange baseball bat tucked behind a nightstand on (what appeared to be) the woman's side of the bed.

On one bedroom upstairs the wallpaper had peeled entirely off the whole wall except for one spot where there was a small square of wallpaper hanging on, I gave it a pull to reveal a metal cross hanging steadfast above the bed.

In the kitchen a mummified cat, at the front of the house a hole that starts on the roof, through the attic, through the second level floor, through the floor on the main level and into the basement.

Most rooms were crooked and bent in every direction, making it tough to keep things lined up on the shots.

I've got a video walk-through of the house for those interested.

Jesus never looked so good!!!

agnus dei, qui tollis peccata mundi: miserere nobis...

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time.

So glad you posted this here where one can get a good look at all the details without the atrocious nuisances of Facebook's display. Sure, Flickr does a much better job too, but therrrrrrrre's just something about UER! All the pics together, and big, and no clicking through them. I don't know.

Anyway, despite being a little bit newer, tell me this place did not remind you of Beamsville the whole time!!! The crosses, the antiques, the decay; I feel like I'm looking at a sequel. The lopsidedness, the clothes and that close-up of the dresser. How eerily reminiscent is that shot of the infamous denture dresser top??

Amaze-balls!!! Places like this make me wonder what life was like living there and then what life events took place to make it become what it is.

These rooms mesmerize me. You did an excellent job of capturing each one for us. I wonder what makes people have so many religious items and pics in their home? Are they seeking protection from something horrible?!? Those light-bulbs in different shades of blue and green must of made for some freakish lighting in the living area. This is a strange one...i must say... Thanks for the share!
