just wondering how people feel about exploration over the years. today was a weird experience for me. I have been actively exploring for over a year now and today I walked through a place and i actually disliked it. I felt as if I had lost motivation to explore. This is new to me and I don't know how to process it. I am curious to hear about others possibly in similar situations.

Its totally normal. The more explorations you do the more jaded you become. I've pretty much completely given up on houses of any kind at this point. There is still the sense of "people lived and worked here" kind of thing when I enter a location but its not really the same for me in locations like an old grain silo or a house.

Finding places that are different, haven't been publicized by other explorers, difficult to get into etc. may be what you need. I've found that every place has a "vibe" to it. Some REALLY speak to you and you never tire of going back to them. Others, no matter how beautiful, you see once and that's more than enough. It's one of the more interesting aspects of this hobby that I love and keeps it fresh and new in spite of the "been there done that" attitude you can get with locations.

Speaking towards this as a hobby, I feel if a person loses motivation, passion, interest (chooses your word) then it was just a passing fancy to begin with.

A true hobby or interest is something that I do not think a person would lose interest in, or become unmotivated to do it.

That does not mean that things can not become routine after a while. Good thing about this hobby is that there are plenty of different things to explore, schools, houses, hospitals, clinics, drains, caves. I've even gotten a kick out of empty fields that hold nothing more than a portion of a foundation of what was there.

Mix it up. If you normally go during the day, go at night. If you normally go alone, find a partner. If you normally wear clothes, go naked (I'm looking at you IndoAnomaly). If you normally look at houses, look at a school.

Recently i have found five new interesting locations but something stops me from actually exploring these places. I asked myself "what am i really looking for?" and realized it's just a quiet space that i need. I know that i won't find there peace and quietness because most of those of places are located near crowded streets!

So, instead of exploring i went for a long walk inside a forest. For me it works. Actually during the walk i found a new location, abandoned school next to the forest and some ruins on a huge sand dune. However, i skipped exploring but i spent some time on the sand dune, drinking tea and watching the quiet surrounding.

As NeuroticMatt wrote, just mix it up, you'll never know the outcome if you don't try.

7 Years after, im still stoke about exploring and going for a mission.

The only difference i see is that one day you will have done pretty much everything in your city and area (depend where) then it can be harder to be motivated to driver 60 km to do a shittty empty manor in the woods.

And with time too, if you are like me, you will do more and more intense shit and you will need to fnid that adrenaline , like a drug.

So you gonna get arrested, like me, loll

So said that...if after only 6 month you are felling 'meh' maybe this is not a real passion but just someting 'cool' you liked.

Something that i do since the beginning is taking a shot with a broom like a litle personnal touch or signature.

Maybe find something that will motivate you to go outside like that... get naked like Indoanomaly.. lol

Try roofs, try drains, mines, industrial, houses... try everything maybe yoll find someting you like more.

I've recently been experiencing a little lack of motivation myself, it comes with the territory. It doesn't help that obviously due to it's size there are limited locations in the UK and as I have been exploring for eight years now I feel as if I have exhausted large parts of the country - and seen some truly amazing places since razed to nothing. The other thing that doesn't help is that everywhere I really want to see is in the USA...

Maybe take a second to assume the person was sincere and looking for a sounding board. We have all been stuck asking ourselves relatively inane questions about the meaning of it all. As part of the planet - shouldn't we all try to be a little better to our fellow inhabitants? Afterall, you get back what you put out there and this is a ROOKIE forum.

I've been exploring on and off for half a century plus.
Motivation has to be internal... or you'll never last.
I'm not a cheerleader.
It's a lame thread.
Try getting busted and losing over $1G, or being questioned by the FBI over a shoot.
Trust me, it will help you get in touch with your feelings

PM me if you need help with suicidal impulses... I know the cure.

I think this principal can apply with any topic in life. To the OP, yes I know what you are saying. Ignore the nit pickers in here. I know I have dealt with lack of motivation in general based on the time of year. I think they call it SAD (Seasonal Affect Disorder)

I also agree with the "Every place has its own vibe" comment. 100% true.

I agree with Peptic Ulcer, go on a drive to somewhere you have never been before an see what you can find! And if you still are not interested after that, its ok! I get real hot on things for a while and then cool off, then come back to them later on. I think its just how it goes sometimes.

Lol, good point.
Perhaps instead of the OP asking what he should think about -his- feelings, he should take a break from exploring.
As long as it takes... what's the point of doing something if you don't enjoy it?

How many times have you seen an explore go to shit, cost you blood, pain and money?
I've lost count.
The nature of living.
A thread on some abstract feeling of disheartenment with exploring is an even worse bore than a bad explore unless you have some tales of arrest, broken bones and gore to share.
Try impaling the palm of your hand on a one inch thorn on the back side of a tree while scaling a fence for a demotivational feeling as you pull your hand off of it.

Beyond that...
I think this thread is a put on, a ringer.

NO! Dude, stand strong in your post! Just because one person flames you, don't think someone else can get value from your post.

I'm new, I probably will get flack for pushing back, but damn skippy man, hold strong in your beliefs and what you post! If you never have someone get mad at some position or thought you post, then you never stood for anything at all. Then you really have to ask yourself WHY you are on this planet and feel dead inside.

I think it was a good post. Put in the ROOKIE forum. I think we all have been in a point where we start losing interest in something or someone we used to love and are asking ourselves why the passion is gone. Its an introspective question and just because someone doesn't believe in your sincerity...............well shoot man, who gives a flying biscuit?! Leave the post. I always see a FRACTION of comments to lurkers on each post. You never know who can get value from simply knowing someone else has been there too.

Peace out - and @Blackhawk - again, I say stand strong in your convictions. I have a feeling I don't need to tell YOU this. I've read several of your posts and you like it kinda rough and tough dontchya? call me..... LOL kidding. I respect your point of view even if I don't share it.

I wonder if you've created a routine that has become stale & boring to you. This is what happened to me in my early twenties, and I haven't explored to nearly the same extent I did when I was younger.

My recommendation would be to add an element of spontaneity. Go on a drive in a rural area (if possible) with no specific plans to explore anything, maybe you'll stumble upon something awesome, maybe you won't find anything. Ultimately you can't have the highs without the lows.

Remove any expectations, and you'll never be let down.
