Do you think that removing an unique item from a site degrades it for future explorers?

Someday he will get stopped and searched leaving a property with some unique item.

Then we will see how he rationalizes stealing stuff then when his Mommy and or Daddy have to come bond him out.

I've taken things like, a desk title plate from a military base or a piece of film strip from a movie theater. I know it's still technically removing an item from a location but I try to only take something small and worth putting in a scrap book or something. Most of what I've acquired came from the first visit. I don't scrap and I hope that's within the group's moral confines.

Glad this thread is still here to illuminate the thieves among us.

Maybe your legal fees will be small and worth putting in your scrap book, hahaha..

I like you're very catholic use of the word "thief". I'm sorry, who was I stealing from again?

You're joking, right? You can come up with every excuse to keep yourself sanctimonious but at the end of the day, you're ass wasn't supposed to be there and you know it. Stop pretending you're better than me because you broke less laws than me. Get over yourself.

The issue here isn't just the legal definition of thievery, it's the fact that removing items from a site ruins it for everyone else. Even a small item can be considered a unique feature of an abandonment, and removing it from the location means that nobody else gets to feel the joy of discovering something cool.

As for who you're stealing from? You're stealing from every future explorer who might visit that location.

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.

While that is agreeable, explorers don't yield a right to a building they never owned. I see the principle of "take only pictures, leave only footprints", I just wanted to hear it from him. I'll only argue this point as far as i'm labeled a "thief" in such a evangelical way.

Does 6 inches of film strip hurt the next explorer, when there's hundreds of feet of it strewn all over the floor? Or the nameplate to a desk that wasn't even in the building, or so much as being photographically worthy, hinder the next guy's ability to pull ambiance? I'm sure I could pick up a burnt match stick from the ground and be labeled a thief because I picked it up on private property.

It would understandable and completely inarguable if you could tell me what was taken from a place before you got there. Better not let 2X catch any of ya'll being litter bugs or we'll have a real problem!

Im sure when the police see your limited edition designer do-rag they will just realize youre a genuine tacticool bad ass and let you walk..

Just tell them your motto is one shot / one kill and they will leave you alone to pilfer all the little stuff you want.

Indeed, this discussion does not make a strong case for his pending FM application.

Have to disagree in part with Aran. I agree 100% that what may not seem like theft to some can ruin an explore, but I also think it 100% has to do with legal definition. There is no big theft, little theft, doesn't count theft. By definition, a thief is a thief....

thief: THēf

noun: thief; plural noun: thieves

a person who steals another person's property, especially by stealth and without using force or violence.

synonyms: robber, burglar, housebreaker, cat burglar, rustler, shoplifter, pickpocket, purse snatcher, sneak thief

That said, am I a thief? By definition yes. Have I ruined someone's explore? Good chance, yes. BUT - no one will stop me from retrieving crumbled up moldy American flags, folding them properly, and handing them over to the local VFW for proper retirement. I can't say this doesn't count - it does. I am a thief.

Otherwise, I take nothing, I leave nothing. I don't need the trinkets and souvenirs. That's what the pictures are for. Am I better than JokerSpecter? Nope. Still a thief.

However..... I do NOT support JokerSpecter's actions or words, just as some may not support mine.

Give abandonment a reason for its sacrificial reclamation to nature. Love it. Remember it. Take a picture. Share it. Leave the decay to nature.

My favorite part about this one was the "see you" part. You're making a looot of assumptions, here. Do you think I walk around the wide-open in broad daylight like some slack-jawed idiot? Because I don't. Most 13-year-olds around here are more dangerous and cunning than you seem to be, since getting stopped by authorities seems to be a normality to you. This isn't Texas, baby boy. I don't "get seen" or "get stopped". That's ridiculous. I do what I do and i'm not gonna let you catch me.

Trust me, 2X. If you "get stopped" by cops here, they won't give a shit if you have a key to the building. They're looking for guns and drugs. Sorry to burst you bubble, buddy, but that's what NOPD is concerned about. But they won't stop you because NOPD is too scared and lazy to do anything about it. They'd rather chase you in their car until you leave or go deeper in the building. Maybe you should do some kind of homework before you try to make a joke of somebody you've never met before. Or don't.

As for the "stealing" part, I still think there's a lot to be talked about. I'm won't just shrug this off. If you're going to look for any excuse to brand somebody then please stop fooling yourself and shut this website down. Everybody in this place is breaking the law by doing what they like. You can blur the lines all you want but acting like windows and locks are one hundred percent respected here is a joke and direct violation to what seems to be 75% of the moral standard here.

Like I said. You can call it what you want but it's hardly hurting the aesthetic of a place when the item is so far removed from the scene.

When it's so far removed from the site, it's worthless except to you and anyone who shot it at that site before you grace it with your presence.

You're the one that started this with your dumb post in a dead troll thread.
Think we're bad? Wait until you have a couple pissed off LEOs hanging off you like a cheap suit.

I'm trying to be honest and put myself out there. I'm not trying to sell guided missiles and keeping it hush hush. I feel like putting myself out there, whether the elders like what I say or not, is more important than being Employee of the Month.

If my ethics hurt my FM then fuck it, maybe I don't deserve it. But before I get approved or denied, you will know who I am and I won't try to hide it. If i'm going to be a devil, i'll be a devil you'll know well.

I have been stopped and questioned by the police at least twice while exploring, and both times they let me go after seeing inside my bag and confirming I hadn't taken anything. In both cases it didn't matter that nobody owned the items. If I was caught with something I would have been charged with a crime.

Quoted for the truth, in nearly all jurisdictions in the U.S. and probably in most countries as well.

If youre a tacticool little badass and so experienced that you are essentially arrest proof like members of The Spector /Specter Group , you don't have to worry about being stopped and searched, I mean just look at JokerSpector, if I was a lawman Id look the other way and then run away fast as I could from any encounter with him. I imagine he graduated from the URBEXSWATUTAH school of improvised weaponry too.

If I have to spell it out for you, the whole essence of Specter group is stealth and speed. That's it. I'm not trying to be "tacticool" (that's a gun nut term), I'm trying to avoid wasted days because one of us was seen. Law enforcement here is a different breed anyway and I'll be happy to explain that.

As for weapons, I carry a folding pocket knife for close encounters. As if the smoke bombs weren't enough, I carry stuff like a pound of roofing nails as a floor trap for anybody chasing me. After you encounter your first tweeker, you never want it to happen again.

Sometimes, but the goal isn't so much that they'll stab themselves in the foot but rather slip and bust their ass on a hundred tiny fulcrums. I would use marbles but those are much more costly.
