Some would say that the recurve blade gives you a longer slicing surface and greater efficiency when using a 'draw' style cutting method (pulling the knife towards you when slicing).

Personally, I agree with 2X.

Ultimately it's personal preference. Give me a good quality clip point with a straight edge and it'll do anything you want it to do.

I avoid serrations on all my blades. They just tend to get stuck and/or bent too easily for my liking.

Posted by EPOCH6 I've always found decent multi-tools more useful than dedicated pocket knives, though I do carry both whether I'm exploring or not. They also carry less of a stigma than pocket knives if you end up having to explain yourself to authorities.

Ugh apologies for the last post not showing up anything; basically I was agreeing with EPOCH6, as I have carried a multi-tool with me several times and when guards have stopped to search my bags they usually let it slide. (I tend to also pack my bag with useless stuff, such as cough drops, pens, papers, etc. to make the multi-tool look inconspicuous and I can say "ohhhh I forgot that was in there!") it has worked for me every time! :p

...but yeah, from everything I can tell it is just cosmetic & makes it difficult to sharpen. If I had the opportunity to have gotten the clip point and standard blade profile I would have gone with that instead.
