The approach to this abandoned tuberculosis sanitarium is a but of a prickly situation, a steep descent down a hill populated almost entirely by thorn bushes.
Luckily we had been forewarned of this and dressed accordingly. This place was absolutely worth it and ended up being my favorite location from not only the four day road trip, but all of 2017.

As with most tuberculosis hospitals this one is located way out in the country and at a high elevation. This was done in the belief that fresh country air and high elevation were both contributing factors in the treatment of TB.
This combination makes for some spectacular views and that beautiful look of nature slowly taking over a building.

This location ticked off most of the boxes for me as far as what I like in a abandoned building. Natural decay, nature taking over, a gorgeous rural locale, equipment and other things left behind and a almost complete lack of human interference over the years. I saw very few, if any signs of scrapping or vandalism and only a small amount of graffiti.

It was a beautiful, sunny spring day with a slight warm breeze when we visited here. We had the building completely to ourselves, save for the family of raccoons living in the attic. I found this to be one of the most peaceful and serene places I have ever explored. As my friends were finishing up shooting the top floor I sat for awhile on a old rocking chair. On a decaying porch looking out into a overgrown courtyard. This was probably the most relaxed I have ever been on a explore.

This one is a tad picture heavy, but this place was just so photogenic I had a hard time choosing favorites, which is not a bad problem to have!
I hope you all enjoy this one. I would love to hear your feedback or stories, as I'm sure some of you have been here as well!

Side note: This was my first time shooting in RAW and my first time using Photoshop to edit.

I chime in with a "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a god damn door?"

"If someone asks you to keep a secret, that secret is a lie."

Still the window burns
Time so slowly turns

Go home autoclave, you're drunk

You're about as useful as a screen door on a submarine

Welcome to The Jungle

The Old Ways Are Lost

Weighing In

Baby, eat this chicken slow
It's full of all them little bones

Soft Floors

Step Skipper

And who can say if your love grows
As your heart chose, only time

I don't feel any pain
I'm rusted from the rain

There is only one place I'd rather go
I'd love to show you how everything works
But the truth is I don't know

Porch Rocker

Lean On Me

Scattered

"Lots of things happen after you die, just none of them include you."

I can see for miles and miles

Thanks for looking!!

Oh MY,MY!! If i had my choice of places to go right now, this would be high on my list. Its been done before, but i have to say THANK YOU for adding shots I've never seen before. That Autoclave is Awesome! The scale looks like it laughs at you if you need to lose a few pounds. The porches are lovely, peaceful and serene. I can just imagine from your splendid shots how nice they were many years ago. Im jealous, Wonderful pics!

I love that old rusted wheelchair, and some of the poetry is deep.

Wow! Amazing photo set. The 4th photo, "Go home autoclave, you're drunk", threw me off. Can't tell if the tray goes into the wall or not.

Thank you so much! I'm glad I was able to convey the place as well as I did! The porches were simply sublime. This was only mid May, I'm sure the greenery takes over even more as the summer wears on!

I never noticed the laughing scale, good eye!

Nice set. One of my favorite places.

Great relaxation

That was almost my exact relaxation spot! The wheelchair had been moved a little ways away and the rocking chair was in that spot.

Thanks bud!! I imagine you have been here a time or two?

Yes the wheelchair was killer. Mostly song lyrics, which is poetry to me!

Thanks Doc! The autoclave was a standalone unit if I remember correctly. It was probably the smallest one I have seen.

Thank you!! I love finding really old equipment like that. Rusty and sweaty, but intact.

Sure, first time I went it was still largely active actually. Not this building clearly lol. I haven't been back in what feels like ages though. Maybe when the weather warms up I'll go back.
