Posted by MonkeyGang I'm highly considering living in Atlanta... sad to hear the urbex scene is dying out. Is the city really that dangerous?

So let me explain my post a bit better.
When I was referring to the dangerous parts of the city, I was not referring to the areas I would love to move to (but can't afford) like Old Fourth Ward, Cabbagetown, etc. I am talking about Pittsburg and English Avenue. Basically anything off Metropolitan Parkway. I had my first job in a manufacturing company on Metropolitan Parkway. I had an ARMED GUARD take me the three steps from the lab to my car. It was that dangerous. We routinely had cops setting up stings in our alleys. I could time my lunch hour by the "business lady" in the silver lame micro mini that would come and go twice "around the block" - then it was about time for me to head back inside.
Now, in fairness, this was 20+ years ago. However, I have driven thru the area recently and not much has changed, hence my statement. I do tend to agree with the very wonderful assessment of "even the bad parts of the city will no longer be unsafe".
That said, while gentrification has hit central and north Atlanta, Southwest Atlanta still reigns as our "dangerous" section. Don't believe me - watch "Snow on da Bluff"
