View from the start
This spot gave me a fair bit of difficulty as it required me to make 2 separate 4-5 hour trips to access it. This is a former fire tower that used to be manned for months at a time. It hasn't been used in decades but is in remarkable condition.
The first time I tried to get to it all the directions specified to approach the site from the south. After going down numerous logging roads unsure of where I exactly was I realized that a former bridge had been destroyed in recent years and wouldn't be able to access it from the south at all, even with my jeep. I passed another local in his own jeep off on his own adventure with his family but they hadn't even heard of the fire tower.
The second attempt we went at it from the north a couple months later. After trekking for about 1.5 hours down an overgrown trail we emerged literally below the tower with no warning. I had heard others mention this happens. You'd expect to see a tower that is 30 metres above the treeline from far off but its very well covered by the trees below. We were suddenly surrounded by metal struts and standing on pavement.
We could see a makeshift fire pit with some beer cans tossed around but other than that it was in great condition. Its several hours away from any sizeable town so hardly any locals know of its existence. After climbing the tower it offered a great view
This was a fantastic day trip and the amount of recce work and preparation paid off. I'm very proud to have found this location.
