| | | Im not a fan of RNK either or those types of youtube channels. I don’t understand why people wanna broadcast these activities to such a wide audience. This is a great example of why it’s better to keep shit to yourself in this hobby. However, the lynch mob mentality on this site is really quite sad. It reminds me of the rehabilitation scene from the movie “Idiocracy”. I mean yea, all the early indicators sure made it sound like they were undoubtedly guilty. However, we know that news articles can skew our perspective. Media outlets just report what they hear. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they have the whole story themselves. Often times what we hear in the news is a bunch of bullshit. Just because there’s a headline doesn’t mean a person is guilty. Admittedly, when I first saw this thread I initially leaned towards the side that they were guilty. But felt it prudent not to publicly scream for vengeance before the story is even fully developed. And after watching a few of his videos, he just didn’t seem like that type of guy. He was always opinionated AGAINST vandalism and it didn’t make sense that he would engage in that very thing, on this extreme level. I’m not very good at reserving judgement either and I usually jump on an opinion right away as well. But my gut just said, I don’t think this guy did it. And it sounds like that is the case after all. The staff (or whatever) have since discovered that the flooding came from damage that resulted from a lack of maintenance. They have stated that these explorers are only guilty of trespassing. It is really fortunate that the officials here have been honest and forthcoming in their findings. They could have easily been expected to just say, “Ya know what, fuck these guys for boarding our ship. Let the charges stick anyway.” Things can very easily be quite the opposite of what we were absolutely convinced they were. Despite this guy’s overall lack of discretion in exploring, I can’t imagine how he must’ve felt, knowing that he absolutely did not do it, yet the rest of the world had already proved that he did.
