I go alone sometimes with my bud sometimes but also im a dude, too poor to rob, and i dont mind shooting the shit with tweakers.

You get more done alone but have way more fun times with friends

I let my mind freak me out. There's a lot of strange noises in abandoned places. I like to "what if" myself right out of exploring sometimes... BUT, that never happens when I have a friend, or 2, with me. I have explored dozens of locations and while a few have been dangerous due to deterioration and building conditions, I have never been injured. I have run into tweakers, homeless, and animals, but never once been injured. I say this to say, it can be a dangerous hobby, but if you take the proper precautions you'll be fine. In most cases, there's no issue with exploring alone if you can get outside of your own head and push past your own fears, but like others have said, exploring with a friend is more fun.

Good idea to go with someone else if you're female-bodied/younger/newer.

Once you're more advanced, you can go alone.

I usually like having a partner but can't always swing it for scheduling reasons.

Depends. The riskier the objective, the more I like having a friend or two with me. But unfortunately, the riskier the objective, the less likely my friends (non-urban explorers) want to go. It’s also more fun when you bring friends IMO.

I always go exploring with another person because you never know what could happen, plus seeing their excitement and enjoyment with whatever we're exploring just brings me satisfaction.

75% of the time I'm exploring with 3 or 4 people but never by myself.

I never go exploring alone for safety reasons. Especially since the last place I explored was way too active with squatters and scrappers. When we were leaving a guy tried sneaking up on us from the stairwell and wouldn’t identify himself. When we said we were leaving and had just been taking pictures, he showed himself but was awkwardly staring at me and eyeing my camera bag. Once he saw I was holding my keychain dog repellent he backed off. Then he proceeded to get in a fight with some half naked homeless broad across the hall. You just never know what you can run into in some of these places. In my mind it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

No one in my area, and my exploration are normally events of opportunity and not planned.

For the 10+ years I've been exploring storm drains, I've been exploring alone but mostly because I've always had a hard time finding friends who love to get soaking wet in the drains. Even now I still have times where I can't find people to hang out with, so I explore drains alone. When I first started going into drains I would always try to go into the outfalls (not manhole covers) because I thought it was more safer and I few friends I had back then weren't true explorers and I literally was just starting to go into drain outfalls. After my friendship ended with these few friends I was alone for 4 years without any friends who shared my interest in storm drains. I finally joined a urban exploring forum (before UER) but at first that didn't seem to work because other members didn't want to give me a chance to prove to them that I'm very into urban exploring. On the plus side I do know a lot of other friends who like to go exploring but the sad part is most of them don't like storm drains like I do, so "AGAIN" I go alone if the weather is nice/no rain. I do try to be patient with everyone but sometimes I just get so excited if I found a new storm drain or a lot of new manhole covers I want to pop so I go alone. I will say that some of the drains I've explored alone are dangerous to go into, especially in manhole covers with deep shafts. I've been in drains through manhole covers that have metal ladders with metal grates to stand on and we called those platforms. Well sometimes with those platforms they are not securely fastened to the frames meaning they are not always bolted to the frames. I went into a drain alone with these platforms and I had boots on, for some reason my boot was sticking to the grate (platform) and it pulled up the grate just a little bit but luckily it didn't fall through to the next the level because if it did fall I would either die or get seriously hurt or wouldn't be able to get back to manhole cover I came from. The next platform down is about another 20 feet or 30 feet down and I don't even know if the next platforms will hold me up if I fell from that height. I'm always safe about what I do and how I do it. I always want to go exploring with people but I really do think that most people are scared of the drains and they don't like to get wet in the drains which that's fine but I love to be scared whenever I go exploring but not where my life could be in danger. I don't see as many people in drains but just about everyone I know in urbex community say they like to explore drains but when I bug them to explore drains they often blow me off or cancel out our plans. Please don't take offense to what I said here because I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just going by what it looks like to me. I have mixed feelings about whether I like to explore drains alone or with other people. For exploring alone I enjoy taking my time and scoping it out before I take anyone else there and for exploring with friends it's always fun depending on the friends I take. Storm drains are the only places I'll explore alone because for whatever reason I feel down in the drains and I've never had anything seriously bad happen to me besides a few times I slipped and fell on my thick backpack for which the backpack broke my fall and the end result is me getting soaking wet(LOL). One I fell into the Mississippi River while walking on a narrow sandstone ledge and I tried to step around a small tree, then my boot slipped off the edge and I fell right in. Thanks to my backpack full of empty plastic bottles, it kept me floating and I climbed out which was tricky. I was alone when this happened so be careful when walking/climbing by any rivers if you're alone because that was a deadly situation and the river was very high. If I fell in that exact spot when the river was low I could of died or got badly hurt because it was a 10 or 20 foot drop to a rocky bed. If I do go into manhole covers alone I always make sure it safe enough to do so. I check all of the rungs to make sure they're solid and safe. I've never came any bad people in storm drains, however there's a fair amount of drains that have homeless people living around but none of them appear to be an issue.
