i have a few locations i already contacted the owner about one as it is too far away to recon. if i did go i would have to wing it if i did it. but if you had the option to ask the owner in any situation near or far secured or not would you?

I generally only ask when there is absolutely no other possible way to access a location. The problem with asking is that if they say no, they're paying attention to the place now and will likely catch you if you attempt to explore it anyway- with harsher penalties, since they already told you "no."

Urbex is a hobby in which "better to ask for forgiveness than permission" will get you far.

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.

I've posted in length multiple times about getting permission, it's advantages and if/when to do it* as have other FMs.
Rather than creating multiple redundant threads here, start reading threads.
You will learn more by listening than asking.
Learn from others mistakes here and while exploring... try not to repeat them.

We like pics...

*good luck finding that

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

I'll send as many pics as I take as long as I remember and they're not trash shots such as accidentally taking a photo of the floor and I'll read up more

There's a rule about access in general, not just to abandoned places but to anything that may have access restricted:

It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

Why? In the wise words of George Carlin, think about how stupid the average person is. Now realize that half the people in the world are stupider than that. When you ask permission for something, the most likely outcome is that the person you're asking will not think hard enough about what you're saying to understand you, and instead simply assume you're up to no good. So now if you do go, they'll be looking for you. So yeah, asking is never a good idea (unless it's literally the only way in).

Also, your username is hilarious.

I'll ask for permission if it's a location I wouldn't otherwise attempt without, or if I'm able to leverage an existing relationship with someone who likes my photography and is in a position to help me out. Those relationships have gotten me inside active tunneling projects, access to various factories and even permission to climb several construction tower cranes. You'd be surprised at how many people are happy to help if they know you're legit and like what you're doing.

If you think you'll get caught then ask permission. Or if you know the owners actually care and will let you go without any hassle.
