It looks like Canada's successfully bending the curve down. So there's that.

https://www.canada...ovid-19-cases.html

It worries me that so many of us are so close to the US though. The "Per capita deaths" chart on this page says the US is more than 3 times worse off than us. Not good, neighbour.

Reporting in from Virginia.

Got stir crazy, frustrated, and moody last weekend so I grabbed the kid, my partner and just started driving.

Headed out towards the mountains and wound up in Lynchburg.

There were loads of people out and about. Granted, this is the town that is home to Liberty University, so I was not really surprised to see families pushing strollers and older folks exercising in the parks there.

It was almost a relief, coming after having been chewed out by someone at the local Food Lion for standing to close to them in the check out line.

While Lynchburg, in itself, is a gold mine of industrial and urban abandonments and infrastructure - I had a 1 month old in tow, so we took ... should I say ... a "baby" approach to exploring ;)

We went to a local park and started sticking our noses in places not many other people would wander around to see.

Started off innocent enough. Showed the little one some cool trains.

Maybe they let you climb on them if you ask or come back on a tour day?

Then we strapped up to go off-roading and found this really... strange little bridge hidden in the woods.

It led to a bamboo forest that gave me weird vibes. Didn't venture far in. Looked like a nice place to shoot up or take a piss.

Wandered around back behind and over things. Found something to come back to in the dry season.

Finished the mini-explore by taking a break at a vista to show the little one a beautiful railroad bridge. Years ago the partner and I walked the maintenance trestle beneath this beauty.

Had a nice time sitting at the vista until my partner pointed out the most vividly interesting bit of the entire explore - a Cinderella shoe.

Did someone climb up to the vista and decide their feet were in too much pain to go on?

Or did someone fool around and have to leave in a hurry?

Hmmm. Either way, nice to know I probably sat in something.

The mood in Virginia is a mixture of disinterest and frustration. Some people are taking the stay at home orders seriously, but others aren't following through at all. It may not seem too serious when your Governor closes the beaches, but still allows "fishing and exercise" as an excuse to visit the shore.

Either way, we're under stay at home orders until at least June. I haven't left my home since our little outing last week. We'll see how long it takes before I get stir crazy enough to go out again.

A town named after public executions, filled with Christians who don't understand the concepts of social distancing. Sounds pretty terrifying to me.

We might start seeing shortages of fresh meat in the near future.

Probably not.

60% of meat sales is to the food service industry and the restaurant industry is on the skids. It's more likely they're cutting production in light of decreased demand and faltering prices.

The results are in for the National Assembly election in Korea, with the highest turnout in 28 years. The ruling party won a majority of seats based on the president's handling of the pandemic, while the conservative opposition was hoping voters would reject the ruling party for its "mishandling" of the virus. The latest daily infection number is down to 22.

No big updates from the UK really, we're still in the 'peak' period with death rates relatively stable and infection rates falling.

There have been various people in and advising government coming up with 'exit' plans from the lockdown, and in the news today there was apparently a 'secret' paper put together with a guide on how things are going to be gradually eased from the beginning of May through to June provided the infection rates continue to fall. What we'll then end up with in June onwards is something resembling much closer to normal life but still with certain social distancing measures for instance pubs/restaurants having to have strict controls on numbers and seating plans for patrons. How long that will then go on for I don't know.
