Been burned few times sharing too much with people I shouldn't've... but for the most part, sharing is caring.

You just gotta learn who's gonna give you trouble:

  • people who are attention whores online... usually have no filter for what's an appropriate exploring pic to post on what platform
  • if you've ever seen someone steal, vandalise, etc... even only once... they're gonna do it on location
  • if someone seems dismissive when you're going over safety or ethics concerns before entering a site, they're gonna be an idiot inside.
  • once a rat, always a rat.
  • an older male who is "very interested" in UE but "knows nothing" about it and is eager for you to teach him everything you know... probably a PI. Urbexers are weird but you can pick these guys out even amongst that weird crowd.
  • any guy who thinks urbex is a good way to pick up girls, or is an appropriate first date activity, is the reason why so many women are turned off from UE. Don't enable them.

Hmm. I think. If it's an Instagram only friend. Keep it to yourself.

If you actually know peeps. Go for it.

And sadly, the only way to really learn who you can and cannot trust comes with experience.

Take someone I know? Sure, if I know they'll keep it to themselves or to a small trustworthy group of people. Urbex is something better enjoyed with others, at least in my experience. You get to have someone watch your back, help with pictures, provide a different perspective, and someone to help you get into harder to reach areas. It can be a solo or social activity.

Only tell someone if they are going with me. Or I might if the location is very well known.

Sorry if this is a dumb question(I'm fairly new to UE) but it seems like sometimes locations are posted and sometimes not on this site and I can't quite tell why. Is it that some locations are well known enough that they do not bother hiding it? Or is it up to OP to decide? Basically, I'm sorta confused on why only some posts say a state, some say cities, and some say the building name. (Also sorry if its only semi on-topic but it seemed along the same lines)

Everyone has their own limits to what they feel comfortable sharing. Some people won't even post photos let alone drop names. But it depends a lot oh whether you're putting the structure at risk or not.
