I've spent a lot of time recently across the border in Wales - both for work purposes and exploring. I've done twice as many places in Wales as I've done in England this year despite the 'closed' border (naughty naughty) which only officially opened up today.

Lately I've found myself with a small group of old friends I hadn't seen for ages and we decided to blast out a load of chapels in the south of the country. You can't go anywhere in Wales without falling over a chapel, almost every village has at least one, larger towns and cities considerably more - there are something like 6000 individual chapels across Wales, that number includes currently active as well as derelict and repurposed examples. I've always had a love affair with them but they are a type of location that rarely ever get explored by many people, as most people nowadays are seemingly on the hunt only for big industry or hoarder type houses. I'm perfectly happy to let them carry on if it means I can discover more incredible totally undocumented chapels.

This was a 'go and see' pinned on my friend's map, and when we turned up we realised that, like many chapels, it was in a very overlooked area surrounded by houses. My friend went in search of access whilst we hung around on the road trying not to look suspicious, and he soon texted us to tell us he was in and had opened a door. After a blatant climb and quick run we were inside, and I was immediately in awe of the place. I've seen grander, more ornate chapels, but the large open space was so beautifully lit by the windows it took my breath away.

Apologies for the shoddy editing of some names out the photos, I wanted to keep it safe on Flickr whilst still being able to show it on here!

I see what you mean ... the light coming through those tall windows all around the chapel is quite beautiful. I assume the theological literature is Gymraeg and I would have been very tempted to play that organ.
