Chapel Deux - The Happiest Accident < on 4/15/2021 8:32 AM > | Reply with Quote
Whilst travelling around south Wales previous to my last trip, me and my friends had driven past this large, imposing chapel and made a note of it as a couple of the lower windows had small boards on them and it simply looked uncared for. At the time we were heading home and rapidly running out of daylight so on the next trip we decided to check things out. And oh boy am I glad we did.
I don't think any of us expected to actually get in, the way in was very much a surprise along the lines of 'hot damn I can't believe it'. None of us had any idea what to expect from the interior but the building was large enough for it to be a pretty grand example of Welsh chapel, and needless to say we were all absolutely blown away by what we saw. There's something extra special about rolling up somewhere with no idea what lies within, and experiencing a place you've never seen in photos before for the first time. It's actual, real exploring rather than the hordes who simply chase the same dozen or so spots with the masses.
The interior was stunning. Beautiful plasterwork on the ceiling, the wall on one side was decaying and peeling, and there was an enormous completely intact organ sat at the far end of the chapel. The only signs of human intervention inside was a small area of the decorative gallery railing missing, and a few pews that had been partially dismantled. It's location must have spared it from being too overrun, as there is a house pretty much attached to one side of the building and we could hear the residents outside in their front garden whilst inside the building at one point.

Absolutely exquisite.
When there is tranquility, you are in the right place. When there are no footprints, you are on the right path. When there are no tire tracks, you are on the right road.

Some say he is everywhere all the time, had his right eye replaced with a camera lens, has a microSD slot behind his left ear, and has already explored ALL our homes but hasn't gotten around to posting the pics yet. All we know is he is called Mookster.

18 man 18...!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time. Z.B.S. Halevi -- Kabbalah
