This building used to host the offices of several arms of the Gary city government, such as the General Services Department, the Civil Defense Corps, and the Civil Services Commission. I visited this location twice over the course of three months- once in January with Ei, and once in April with Inloc and Und3rlie.

The back lot was filled with derelict municipal vehicles, including an old squad car. Naturally some pictures had to be taken with it. After all, how often do you get to stand on top of a cop car and not be arrested?

The main entrance had a sort of grand staircase leading to the upper levels. Unfortunately it was vandalized by a prominent graffiti artist named "Poetry By Boots" who has made a point of tagging up pristine abandonments with her signature hearts in the region surrounding Chicago.

There were various pieces of signage from city departments and past initiatives scattered throughout the building, along with boxes of old city documents.

There was also a small classroom on one of the upper floors. I'm not sure what it was for, but I doubt it was used to teach children- some kind of city worker seminars seems more likely.

Here's a view of the derelict ambulance and SWAT van in the yard, taken from the second story window. There was also a Fire Battalion Chief's pickup truck out of frame.

Across the street was an active garage used by the city government for fleet maintenance of its remaining vehicles. The yard of said garage was filled with dozens of broken down municipal vehicles such as electrician trucks, animal control vans, and emergency vehicles. Unfortunately our attempts to photograph this veritable junkyard was interrupted by the inopportune arrival of an ambulance for maintenance at the garage so we had to make a rapid exit. Still, I was able to snap this photo before we had to go.

I'll definitely be posting more photosets from Gary when I get around to post process editing them. Ei and I managed to hit 14 locations in 27 hours, and you've already seen my photoset from my
visit to Midco #2 with Inloc and Und3rlie. Until next time.
