Recent trip to an abandoned hotel

Hi all,

Thought I'd share some pictures from my latest adventure-- an abandoned hotel in New York. I don't want to give too many details away since the place has already been damaged immensely. I also really liked the town it's in and would hate to attract the wrong folks there

Anyway, I went there on a sanctioned workshop of sorts. No patience or know-how for editing. Just happy to be out there taking photos!

Lots of interesting history here and relics from the past including super retro wallpaper and rotary phones. Enjoy!

My favorite room:

Bed frame storage:

Wee little chair:

The TV room:

Wow, this is a great spot for sure. I agree with you on the first shot being the best. I would love that wallpaper in my garage.

Thanks for sharing!

Yeah there were a bunch of us. Sometimes it's nice to just relax, not worry about being caught and really enjoy the location (even if it's been trashed a bit).

Hmm I do recall a spot behind the desk where it could have been but it wasn't very obvious. I have a feeling that it was destroyed The only things left behind the desk were hotel ads, lots and lots of bills (yikes?), and a really cool safe that wasn't going anywhere.

I haven't seen photos of this place in a long time! I really like your photo of the bed frames, the lighting is excellent.

Oh my lord, that 60's/70's wallpaper in the last shot - you can almost hear the wah pedal pumping lol.

Seriously, I find this infinitely fascinating as it really does capture an era. I can imagine that this place saw it's last customers in the 80s, surmising that they wouldn't have had the funds to redecorate in the waning years of the hotel's existence.

I'm also interested in the phones without dials - I'm a bit of a tech history geek. In fact I'd be willing to bet there's a big ol' telephone exchange somewhere in the building, possibly by the front desk, or in the office behind. Nobody is strong enough to lift one of those and nick it.

Thanks for this incredible look.

The phones are definitely from the time of big mechanical exchanges but it wouldn't surprise me to find a slightly more modern (for the time) electronic PBX mounted to the wall in the office. In a faux-wood trimmed cabinet, of course.

Thanks! The wallpaper in every single room was incredible. One of the guys with me ended up making a cool collage with his wallpaper photos.

If I do remember, there was something akin to a phone exchange behind the front desk. But it was so picked apart that I can't be sure what I saw!

I haven't been here in almost 10 years, wow sad to see how trashed it got. Just the way it goes these days. Good work documenting the location though. It's a big place, I'd imagine its fun to be able to walk around there without the threat of having legal issues.

There was an elevator and I did take a photo of it but didn’t seem to catch my attention as much? Def no dumb waiters that I recall… though was just in an abandoned hospital that has one in the violent women’s ward for some reason.
