While I do think Bill raised some good points about the secrecy surrounding locations hindering the formation of wider communities over longer distances, I still disagree with him on that matter. Putting that information openly online not only makes it easier to find for scrappers and vandals, it encourages local kids who might not have otherwise gone inside to go inside and cause problems. Even with locations in an advanced state of decay, that increased traffic draws enough law enforcement attention and neighbor complaints that city officials are forced to seal the location. I've seen it happen time and time again, and sometimes they do a good enough job that nobody can get in for years. Even if it doesn't speed the rate of decay, it impedes accessibility for those in the know. Damen Silos still has security guards posted on site, and the MSP city government straight up backfills entire caves with building rubble when they get sick of chasing kids out.

Of course, this mostly applies to high density urban areas like Chicago and MSP. In areas with a lower population density, smaller population, and fewer explorers, there's a little more leeway with how much information you can post without causing problems for a location.

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.

I don't know Bill from a bar of soap. I've just seen his name pop up on UER a few times over the years. I think what he says about feeding certain locations to the masses isn't a bad idea. The Cave Clan used to have Stealth Locations (AKA travel light locs) where you had to leave no sign of the visit & tell no one about them, but that was usually because the locations were active.

Bill Finan is like Ed Wood whereas many of today's urbexers are Spielbergs

I live in a regional area and people don't mind travelling a few hundred kilometers for an abandoned prison or power station.

That's not fair to Ed Wood, who was able to put together a great deal of semicoherent movies. Bill Finan is more like Tommy Wiseau with 1000% more flop sweat.

I agree with the host, in that Bill Finan might in fact not be an explorer, but more of an abandonment tourist.

He once offered me money for him to come halfway around the world so I could be his guide. Tourist sounds right.

I continuously swung back and forth from being in pain to rather interested.

Anyone know any better Urbex podcasts? The only thing i've found that is engaging with no ego is Abandoned Carousel, but it went inactive last year.

Too bad, I had plenty more amusement parks I could have introduced to them over here.

I'm on the current episode so it's bound to fold and go belly-up now.

Bill is a great guy. I had the honor of exploring Cleveland with man, and he is a true legend. Also he's counting down the days until his 10 year UER ban is up.

I haven't listened to this yet but I have actually met Bill multiple times. I first ran into him riding his bike around Iola Sanatorium in Rochester, NY back in 2013. I went out and greeted him (no idea who he was) we ended up hanging out for the day around campus. We then ran into FloodSpectre and his wife (if I remember). We treated Bill to some whiskey and pot.

About a year and a half later, we had about two dozen people at the Budd in Philly for my birthday and literally OUT OF NOWHERE Bill shows up. No one ever told me who invited him, but I am sure they never actually expected him to take a bus/train from Rochester but he did...

Bill at Iola (just happy to be in a building)

Bill and myself at Iola

Can you spot Bill at the Budd?

Bill's comments from the group shot above (I had to reactivate my facebook just to find this)

I can not for the love of God stand Bill on the internet but at least in the couple of times I have explored with him, it's a 180 vs him online.

He is.
And he whinnnnnnnnnnnesssssssss to be taken places.

He's been invited to two meetups, and both of which is just a bunch of explorers hanging out partying and not really exploring.

BOTH parties he WHINED and CRIED to be taken somewhere. full out temper tantrum.

And when someone finally took his ungrateful ass he still complained it wasn't good enough.

he's a goddamn cry baby. wish people stop giving him the time of day.

it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.
