so wednesday, i waddle out to my dealership of choice for some business and end up sitting there gabbing for almost two hours. Stopped at a market on my way home, and decided once back in the car to take the long way home.

Just outside of Elizabethtown, New York, a 200lb deer comes running over the guardrail from the north side of the road. I panic, mash the cease-forward-motion pedal immediately and head for the shoulder. I miss the head-on, but Bambi isn't wearing BF Goodrich and slips trying to change course and hip-checks the side of my car hockey-style and then heads back for the words, it's mission of chaos and mayhem completed.

funny part of this? Not a mark on the car. Not a ding, dent, divot, scratch or blemish.

it's weird, but I will take it.
i've never hit a deer like that and had no damage to my car.

anyways... shit happens.

I laughed when you said Bambi wasn’t wearing BF Goodrich. Glad you’re okay

it was so close, i could've reached out the window and grabbed its antlers. I am blown away it didn't rip the mirror off the door and smash the window with its horned melon!

Jeez... I live in terror of coming around a corner at speed and finding one of our native deer in the middle of the road!
The shikka would make a horrible mess.
The kyon less so, but still.

We've got an enoshishi (wild boar) problem too, and I tried getting my hunting trapping / license, and it's just too damn complicated.

I do however, have a driver license.

'You hunt enoshishi?', they asked... 'What with'?
'A Mazda CX-5...'

I got these two fuckers with one judicious pass.

when i had my Cruze, i did hit a deer... a gigantic 200lb+ monster at 60mph. The summer before I traded the car, I was on I-87 here and almost hit a moose! My Cruze was cursed when it came to wildlife.

Got one 4 or 5 (I don't remember) years ago in the 750,000 km Jetta. All cosmetic, aside from ripping the top off of the day old battery. Slapped $100 worth of used body panels on it, drove it for another couple of years and sold it to a guy who insists on hitting 1,000,000 km.

last night around 12:30am, yours truly whacked another deer on NY 9N/22 in the lovely village of Port Henry, New York. I was going 30mph, the deer ran out from the east side of the highway and first caved the passenger-side fender in. In keeping with inertia, the deer's ass and body caved the door in, breaking the door handle in the process.
had the estimate done this morning- $4500. The insurance company cut the check before lunch... parts have been ordered.

getting pretty sick of wildlife...
