2021 was a fairly busy year for me. I didn't take as many pictures as I might have liked, since I mainly focused on playing around with video, and I've been having a lot of fun exploring both the shooting and editing side of things.

The year started with an outing in which we hit three locations on the same day. A psych ward which I had seen before, as well as some remaining greenhouses on the property of some rich oilman from the old days. We also took a look at a dead (soon to be gone) mall that once housed one of my favorite places as a small child - the Rainforest Cafe. Exploring in the deep snow was a brand new experience for me.

Some other odds and ends, mostly from a nurses' dormitory with a beautiful crumbling ceiling in the entrance hall:

Around the summertime was when I started focusing more on shooting video. I've often explored with a GoPro strapped on, but I wanted to learn how to really present footage. Results have been mixed lol, but I think I did it best with the revisit of this medical hospital. Unfortunately, this meant I didn't take many pictures. The place is pretty trashed and I'd mostly lost interest in it, but I wanted to see the X-Ray machine.

The video:

After that, not much happened until about October. It was mostly a lot of the psych ward spelunking I'm used to, but there was some new fun to be had as well. At a park out east, we discovered some one-room bunkers in the woods near a large park. I was looking around the area on Google Earth, and saw what looked like some suspiciously straight lines amongst the trees. Not sure what they would have been used for, and I've been unable to find anything about them online. Someone's clearly using them for leisure time, though, as shotgun shells litter the grounds.

We made a few easy trips to a geriatric ward I've been to many times before (made my first post on it about 6 years back), but there were some new discoveries to be made there as well. A weird pair of rooms of indeterminate purpose that I can't find on floorplans, with very obscure entrances. Also, we tried climbing through a hole in the wall of the basement that revealed itself to be the other side of a bricked-up door. It led us to entire sections that had been sealed off and painted over for reasons unknown. There didn't seem to be anything too unusual about these areas... but we found Connect Four.

The building with the snow pouring in from the skylight, now minus the snow and, apparently, plus a makeshift party.

Finally, and my personal favorite: An old medical facility. I'd been here briefly 7 years before, and only afterwards learned that it was once used as the set of a movie. Having found a copy of the film on Youtube over the summer (after contacting the director, who wanted a bit more than I was willing to pay for a DVD copy) we decided to head back and try to recreate some shots.

Several scenes were shot in front of this window. Was pretty exciting to compare their footage to ours afterwards!

A brief horror scene was filmed in this hallway. It features a gliding moving down the hall, which was not easy to try and recreate with all the debris on the floor.

All in all, what made this last one so fun was having some foreknowledge of what to look for beforehand. Being able to come around a corner and say "Oh, this is where X happened!" was a very refreshing way to explore, and proof that I'd probably get more out of new locations if I researched them first, instead of just barging in the moment I spot them.

Anyway, hope this was an enjoyable scroll.

You can watch the movie itself here, in terrible quality and with hardcoded subs.

Our video of the explore is here, with footage comparisons at the beginning, 12:32, and 14:50.
