I went from Ohio to Tennessee once, almost a 5 hour drive. We had found a specific spot that really peaked our interest but the when we got down there, the area seemed way too 'hot' to explore, bummer! We also planned a camping trip to make the drive worth it though. Very curious to see how far you guys were willing to go to see a spot!

We're new here and to the forum scene in general, any etiquette pointers are appreciated. Stay scary!

Just last month I travelled from the UK to the very deep south of Alabama to explore a hospital.

Granted it wasn't the sole purpose of the trip but it's the furthest I've ever travelled away from home.

Furthest during one specific trip with a goal in mind was driving with some friends from Buffalo in western NY to Atlanta, something like 15hrs.

Drove through the night from Chicago to Pittsburgh. Dead mall access thanks to a rogue security guard who believes in the cause.

A slight twist on the question.... I told the working world to go F itself and drove around Southern Ontario 5 days a week exploring.

I ran out of gas money after 10 months so I had to plug my head back into the matrix.

460 km in a single day is my record. Almost 60,000km of the best road trips I've ever experienced.

Now, I'm a weekend warrior at best.

Last summer. Two weeks and 5000 kilometres around Finland just to find and photograph locations. Managed to access around 70.

My plan for the next summer: to buy a new summer car, visit every single current and former municipality in the damn country and get at least 100 more.

Went to British Columbia (from Montreal) to explore. I took a plane to go there but drived back. Must be the longest travel I've done to explore (5k km drive). Also drived to colorado and Newfoundland for abandoned Mines.

I went in France for my job and took 3 more days to explore the catacombes.

In 2005, I returned to Cambodia primarily to visit Bokor Hill Station. Granted, I did other stuff as well, but that was my primary target.

Other notable trips include 50-kilometer two-day group hike to Colesbukta and back, a 30-kilometer one-day solo hike to Grumant, and snowmobile trip across Lomonosovfonna to Pyramiden.

Within Finland, no single trip has been longer than something like 150-200 kilometers one-way. It's a small country after all and if you drive for too long, you'll hit the Russian border.

Just last month I drove 960km round-trip to explore an abandoned radar station in the middle of nowhere. I slept in my car and a cheap hotel.

I think the farthest I've travelled specifically to explore was around 1100km, but I stopped at several locations in a large circular road-trip. I camped in some of the abandoned buildings along the way.

One time I took a 780km flight from Fredericton, New Brunswick to Deer Lake, Newfoundland, then drove 200km to an abandoned fishing village. I found a beautiful camp site at Gros Morne National Park.

On purpose... few hours by car. But in terms of finding stuff while travelling, 2,080 miles and 6,500 miles.
