There is a district in Detroit called Airport Sub, it surrounds the inner-Detroit airport and some neighborhoods around it. The area next to the airport is mostly industrial.

This was a former steel processing plant, up in front is the office building

People were easily able to demolish the steel structure that made up the body of the factory

This chimney had to be partially demolished due to the airport

Walking around this close to the airport was deafening, the planes were extremely loud and the runway was parallel to the plant.

This location used to be a chrome plant. Most of the buildings were demolished in the past few years in a desperate attempt to sell the property

You can see how most of the offices are completely empty

A couple spaces had mountains of debris in them, such as this room

The second floor area seemed to have a few pitfalls. Not much was on the roof

That's because in most instances, the (new) property owner assumes legal responsibility for any environmental contamination and cleanup expenses, and factories or even something small like a gas station have a tendency to contaminate the soil. While it's far from the only reason that a lot of factories are hesitant to open in Detroit, especially in areas that have been zoned for industrial use for many decades, it's a big factor.

It's tragic what happens to these places
