Decaying ruins of the original kitchen hall for jockeys and backstretch workers of the Fort Erie racetrack, opened in 1897. There used to be a guard here to help horses cross over Thompson road to access the practice track for exercise and training. A senior former worker told me that, in its heyday, there were over 1200 horses stabled on the grounds behind this old hall and that many horses are buried behind it. Today, only the main track is used, leaving the massive tract of fenced land on this side of Thompson road overgrown and predominantly empty. By the 1960s, a baseball diamond was built behind the hall and this building became the rec house that serviced the league. It had pool tables and a little restaurant called Pagliacci’s that was open during the numerous baseball games. The diamond disappeared on satellite imagery between 2002-2004, replaced with a very small “sand ring” training track that is now also overgrown and no longer serviced. December, 2022.

This place has some nice contrasting colours that make those shots really pop. You have all of the nice places to visit down there right at your fingertips.

I know the Ontario forum isn't into group gatherings anymore but I sure would love it if a "One day only" exception would happen.

p.s. why does Santa's reindeer have to haunt me every December?

With the colours and the old signage, it almost feels like an old set or a theme park. Really neat
