Opening its doors in 1962, this hospital offered medical and surgical needs to the greater Contra Costa area and also included an emergency room and ICU. Unfortunately in 2006, after averaging a $1 million dollar loss in revenue per month, the hospital closed its doors for good. Since then it has remained extremely boarded up until the last few years. Exploring this place for the first time was a surreal experience. Navigating the 99,000 square foot labyrinth in absolute pitch darkness was definitely an eerie feeling, but hidden throughout the dark halls, the remnants of medical equipment could be found around every corner. Finally, at the end of 2022 the hospital was demolished in order to build a local housing complex after sitting vacant for 16 years. I can't say how grateful I am to be a part of this community, with many of them, I shared this exploration with. I have spent hours upon hours, days and nights, standing in the darkness of these hallways taking photos with so many other great explorers who share the same passion I do! Locations like these are something special and what makes all the hard work and risk worth it! Never stop exploring! Hope you enjoy!
