Found an old Rehab center in Marin County area, just north of San Francisco, willing to give the location if someone would like to visit, I just want a location in return.

This thread is cool to get the discussion going and see if others are interested in trading but all the real business is best done in private message, people don't just give locations away generally in an open thread.

And yes locations get traded all the time, Ive been messaged quite a few times by people asking for help thats what UER is all about. I don't give a shit if i'm an explorer "worth knowing" or not b/c were all equally insignificant on this forum, sometimes its all about the thrill of the hunt and possibly learning more about an area for yourself as well.

Ok thank you for letting me know, i feel like the area I'm located in just doesn't have much, or maybe I'm lazy, and if i do find a spot on maps, and head over there, it might still be an active building, but i understand. Thank you for your insight. Obviously I'm new to urbex and am just looking for some places to explore.

Are you from Marin Co.?
If so there are lots of old bunkers and hiking areas up that way where you can definitely find locations and even random other stuff to photograph. Just get out and find things and then finish filling out your profile with as much as you wish to share, obviously don't ever share your personal info.

Stinson beach probably has fun stuff to do and if you like some of the pictures you take could always share over in the photography sub-thread (sub-reddit) part of this site.

Gives your profile more substance and whatnot so people can relate to you and more likely to share their locations....

Not really. The trades tend to be uneven with rapidly diminishing returns.

If I show someone a spot it's because I trust them to be a good steward of it, not to scrap or vandalize it. But if you trade spots then you're asking me not only to trust you, but to trust everyone else you'll ever trade spots with, and everyone they trade spots with, and so on. You're not asking me to trust you, you're asking me to trust you plus dozens or even hundreds of faceless strangers.

Plus most explorers worth knowing do their own research and put in the work to discover spots. Because of this, we're reluctant to just hand the results of hours of legwork to someone who hasn't earned it. Most experienced explorers find that people who see spots as currency to be traded just don't respect those spots the way someone who had to find it themselves does, and are more likely to be vandals and scrappers.

And the last reason is that after a certain point, you have nothing I want. The spots that get traded around are pretty much always the low hanging fruit (or quickly become it), and experienced explorers either know about them already or have the skills to find them on their own with ease. There's a reason spot-trading explorers rarely rise to become respected within the community- it's because they lack the skills to find things on their own, and when they run out of low hanging fruit they find that nobody really trusts them because of the first paragraph.

On a serious note... I won't lecture you, because I'm glad to see others already have. You want to be accepted, not looked at/scorned as a FNG, etc? POST IMAGES & some cautious info (read the rules...) of your Rehab center explore, keep your eyes open in your daily travels! Your sense & ability for exploration shouldn't rely on others, it should be based on your own independent research & curiosity -- research here, but also just by exploring. OK, mea-culpa -- I started lecturing... When I found this site many, many years ago, the first thing I did was spend HOURS reading old & new posts & responses, then after I got a feel for things, I responded to about 20 posts, with useful information pertaining to the site.


There's a tremendous amount of stuff in the SF Bay Area. The closest I ever lived to Marin County was San Mateo, and I left California 14 years ago now, *but* I can easily think of at least 10 cool places right there in San Rafael or nearby that were & still would be interesting places to explore -- doesn't mean that hundreds of people, including dozens here, haven't already checked them out, but so-what -- feed your sense of exploration, and maybe then when you share your exploration details, we may learn or see something we didn't already know, or maybe someone will say something like "Nice job, but if you go back, take that path to the left for 100 yards, and you'll see ________."

We all were new to UE'ing once, but just keep in mind that most of us here have been doing this a long time now & we may be as old as your parents -- in fact, we may be your parents! Maybe we get a little crusty on the forum -- however we do share your sense of curiosity & desire to explore & document. We're also cautious and want you to develop (and display) some basic skillz on your own, so that you're thought of as a newish guy, but not an FNG.

im not from Marin co, not sure what that is, I feel like headlands is kinda boring, as everything has been explored, nothing is really there just empty concrete buildings, Stinson beach also seems kinda bland. not trying to be disrespectful. how would I post pictures to my account? I could for sure go to some places and take some pictures and if I do upload them, should I erase the metadata? thank you for actually being helpful and not just lecturing me on the 40 different ways that I should have done this.
