hello! my name is Nui, and this is my first attempt at urbex'ing. I had a lot of fun doing it, even if it wasn't the most exciting first run. I'll start with a bit of information on the area, then you can see all the pictures I got!

A casualty of the 2007 real estate crash, McAllister Ranch was touted to be an elite, 6,000 home suburb on the southwest side of Bakersfield, CA. The property eventually landed in the hands of the Buena Vista Water Storage District for use as a groundwater bank, after the parent company of the original development declared bankruptcy and sold off the land.

The property includes a 600 acre golf course and clubhouse foundation in the center, complete with cart trails to navigate it. The ranch's main road is littered with toys and loose rebar, as well as various construction materials. Any walls or structures left standing are heavily tagged. Open sewer outlets and utility vaults are common.

The only thing stopping me from getting into this place was a cow fence that I easily squeezed through, and the road outside of this place isn't all that busy. This felt like a quiet, easy little hike through one of the nicer looking parts of town.

Entrance to McAllister Ranch - Two arches bearing a fleur-de-lis are at every entrance to the ranch.

Main Street Junction - Some walls are still standing here, and more arches are presented leading into the country club and golf course area.

Exposed Sewer Access - Thought it was something cooler, just turned out to be the sewer.

Lived-in Utility Vault - Cans of food, ramen, and peanut butter were in here. A trash can was outside along with a truck bed cover (I assume it was for shelter from the rain).

Kitty on a Skateboard - My personal favorite piece of graffiti art I found over the clubhouse.

Bottom of the Clubhouse - The coolest part about the ranch. There's lots of corners for someone to hide, so be careful. I obviously wasn't the first one to come down here.

Damn that utility vault thats being lived in immediately gave me Viggo Mortensen and The Road vibes from when him and his son find the bunker stocked with food and goods.

Hi Nui--thanks for the detailed writeup. The utility vault is pretty interesting in how deep it is. I'm also looking forward to seeing your future posts!
