Any MMORPG people out there?

I’m just wondering, are there any MMORPG people out there? Just wondering what games you are playing, and which ones would you recommend/not recommend?

Currently I am playing Runescape, its kind of lame, but oh well, I like wasting some time on it. I’m only playing it under a non-paying member account, I don’t have money to spend $7 a month on membership fees

You are such a dork, Taco. Shawna plays Runescape and I do EvE and Darkspace.

I tried out Faldon a while ago, its not too bad, but then again, its not all that good ether. From what I heard, some moderators gave themselves, and their friends some hacked items, and now the game is now just unfair. As a result, there where players with rediculuous stats and money that would be impossible to get by playing "normaly". I only played Faldon for about a week, and that was almost a year ago. I have no idea what the status is on the game currently.

I seriously considered picking up games like Star Wars Galaxies or City of Heroes, but I just can't bring myself to pay that kind of money for a game that I've already paid for. That, and these days I just don't have the kind of time necessary to get anywhere in them. I'd prefer free online games... what are some worthwhile ones in my pricerange?

I played Ultima Online for quite a while when it first came out, and got rather far. I became a member of a large and powerful guild, and though I wasn't the most powerful character in it, I got pretty well known. Being famous is a good substitute for being less-than-powerful.

I was a tester for City of Heroes for a month and it fucking sucked... I played it twice and vowed never to play it again lol

About money: Yeah i know MMORPGs cost a bit more than a usual game, but its not your usual game either. Everquest has a clusterfuck of something like 1700 PCs together, with 24/7 techies on them, plus devs, testers they have to pay to develop additional content. WHen you have a shitty MMORPG, its not worth it, but with a good one, im willing to fork out a few more bucks than i usually pay for a game. There was usually 1000 players on my EQ server, not the usual 4 player diablo hackfest. City of heroes cost me 100$CAN instead of 60$CAN to try it out for 3 months with a game card, so i dont think its really that much higher.

I played city of heroes for a month, then abruptly stopped playing when i saw how boring it gets. Its fun for a while, but theres only one thing to do pretty much, kill enemies to lvl up.

Ive played star wars galaxies for 2 months, and it has its moments, but classic example of MMORPG where the developpers cant figure out a way to make you play the game other than put in ridiculous time sinks like waiting 5-8 mins to get to a town, then wait another couple of minutes to get to the starport... or how about a brawler that has to buy armor every 8-10 hours of gaming because of the stupid decay? A game with potential that they pretty much screwed up.

Upcoming MMORPGs:

EQII: Ive played the first and im kind of divided on it. It is the best MMORPG ive played, with alot of content. I could do a quest that would give me as a wizard a wand to lower enemies resistance against elements, with me having spells like fire, ice based. The halloween event of 2001 is what hooked me in, they would change the sky color of some zones, and spawn new never before seen mobs in it, like werewolves and undead dragons, 200ish players in a zone hunting them, plus PVP going on at the same time, craziness. Hunting an ancient cyclops that would drop a ring that you used for getting boots that make you run faster. Lots of little things to do like this in alot of zones that kept it interesting.

Things that bother me about EQII:

1. "locked" encounters. If you start a fight with your group, kill 4 out 5 creatures in an enemy group, then the last one gives you trouble, you can yell for help and other players can jump in, but you get no xp and loot from the encounter... Oh and any movement buff you have is negated while you fight, to make it "strategic", they say

2. No pvp. Well that one was predictable, but still, pvp was half my fun of playing EQI.

3. what will downtime look like? in EQI it got unbearable after a while and i just left the game.

I might try it for a month, but ill probably get this instead:

World of warcraft:

Dont know much about the game, but i worked as a game tester and people at my job give good feedback for it, and pvp is implemented from the start, so that will probably be my first choice come november. Never seen a shitty blizzard game too, so theres another incentive. (WC3 was "the worst" and still a good game anyway)

I play NexusTk and my boyfriend plays both FlyFF and NexusTK. I am planning on trying out Dungeons and Dragons online when it comes out. Id think about World of Warcraft but its just too much $ for something I probably wouldnt be able to play much.

I play CthulhuMud and Towers LPMUD.. normally I jump on every once and a while.. I am trying to stop my friends from playing WoW and play a real game, because those types of games aren't especially fun playing alone..
Other then that I've been wanting to play a little EvE but just don't have the cash for it right now..

Currently I play an ill-tempered Tarutaru WAR/BLM on Final Fantasy XI. If anybody's on the Bismarck server, the character's name is Perki and I'm currently en route from Bastok to Jeuno.

I used to play that, but those damn midgets kept reminding me of children with frostbitten noses, that combined with no ability to jump killed it for me..

Roadwolf and I play WoW, on the Khaz'Goroth server, under same names as here. I am not a gamer *at all*, this is the first computer game I have ever bought, and I have fun playing it. While you are physically alone while you play, you can often group up with other people in the game, an easier task if you're in a guild.

WTF indeed.
