Does anyone listen to Christian music and what are your opinions on it.

Although this may sound odd I can't stand most Christian music, I find it to be of low quality musically and often the lyrics are incredibly cheesy and void of true thought provoking stimulus. There are a few good bands which I enjoy but in the whole, the stereotypes that society makes about the Christian music industry are true for the most part.

I agree, I dislike most christian music, specifically "christian rock" but I do like Switchfoot, and a few other songs here and there.....But I am a HUGE gospel fan, mostly Kirk Franklin, and Mahalia Jackson.

I'm not a fan of popular christian music, but put me in a church with a pipe organ and I'll just lean back and close my eyes in ecstasy... Toccata and Fugue in Dm anyone?

I used to sing in my church choir, and we mainly did classical music, so I have a large collection of Religeous classical music at home, most of it things we sang that I liked. The Faure Requiem, some great music by a man named Herbert Howells, and of course anything by Bach. I always listen to the St. Mathew's Passion around Easter.

The Christian music I like is generally from the late nineties. The Newsboys, Petra and DC Talk are excellent examples. I also like some current stuff by POD and Switchfoot. I am also a big fan of hymns.

Ah, I should add I'm also a big fan of chants. Sometimes stopping at a stoplight while blasting some chant over my speakers will elicit strange looks from people within ear-shot.

I can say that most praise music drives me up the wall. But I do like the Newsboys, Petra, and Jars of Clay. I'm more of a "Hard Rock" person. I used to like Creed, but their problems have kinda soured me on them.

I do rather like chants, and believe it or not I do actually like organ music and old hymns. The organist at our church is really good - we always miss her whenever there's a substitute. You can tell she really loves that organ. She can get sound out of the thing that nobody else can touch.

I can't stand Christian music of any sort. With that said, to those of you who agree with my sentiment, I would suggest you pick some Pedro the Lion. It's sorta hard to describe but the guy behind it, Dave Bazan; hates Christian rock and it's hoakie-ness, but his stuff is very Christian...like I said, it's hard to explain how he feels about his music without reading interviews, which are interesting. PtL is basically indie rock with a Christian slant.
