The term was originally used by Woody of the Cave Clan in Melbourne, Australia in 1986 whilst exploring a promising looking drain with an 11ft entrance. After about a mile the RCP split was joined by a tributary tunnel with both shrinking to 8ft. Another mile and the pipe was joined by another side-pipe and shrunk again. This continued until the pipe was less than 2ft high. The only features were the junction-rooms where the tunnels adjoined. "This tunnel's nothing but a shrinker" said Woody.
