anyone know the freqs. and how to listen to the new 800mhz police/fire radios? All of the agencies around me have switched over and i cant listen anymore. I believe they are encrypted but i cant even find the freqs. on my modified scanner. Any ideas at all?

Are they using digital? You could be out of luck if they went digital.

Are they now trunked?

I believe if they were trunked he would still be able to hear bits of conversation, just not follow the whole thing.

Only if they still use bits of the previous freqs, otherwise if they are new, nothing.

More than likely they are digital but im not sure. I know they are in the 800mhz range but my scanner doesnt seem to pickup any police or fire traffic. Is there a website that may help me narrow down the frequences?

Well, you might be in luck, but I don't know the area very well.

Larimer County Sherrif's Office use VHF Conventional (not trunked or digital), and their frequencies are as follows:

155.1300 - Channel 1 (Dispatch)
155.6700 - Channel 2
155.5650 - Channel 3

Also in Larimer County, City of Estes Park use VHF Conventional for Police and Fire, are as follows:

153.9500 - Town of Estes Park
154.2350 - Estes Park Fire Department
155.9100 - Estes Park Police Department

As for everyone else... There's a State-Wide trunking system in the 800MHz band. This system is APCO-25 digital capable.

Fort Collins Police, Loveland, Poudre Police are all digital users on the system.

If you tell me what Police Service does your city, I'll tell you what you need in terms of radios to listen to them.

Yes, it's still entirely possible, however you will need a digital scanner.

Such types include the Radioshack Pro-96, Uniden BCT-796 and any other APCO scanner.

yea, something is wrong there, $499.95 is really cheap, they must have screwed up on the pricing...

or it could be the old style of digital ? i know many police systems are moving to a new format, exkal could bring more light to this subject I think.

Nope.

That's the going price for a Pro-96 right now...499 US.

There's a few forms of digital being used.

VSELP which is the old version. Very few police forces use this anymore. Cleavland, Seattle and Peel Regional Police are a few that come to mind.

The new form is IMBE. This is what everyone else that's using Motorola uses.

There's also AEGIS and ProVoice, but those aren't monitorable by any scanner, they are made by GE Comnet Tyco Ericsson.

i do have a digital scanner but it is fairly old, its pre-ban so i can listen to things im not supposed to.... Its a PRO-2005, think it would be able to pick them up?

The PRO-2005 isn't a digital scanner.

It has a digital readout, but it's by no means a Digital Scanner.

By Digital, I mean digital modulation, to receive the new types of radios that are available.

There's only 5 or 6 scanners out that will do this, all of which have been released in the last year or so.

But, having said that, the 2005 is a VERY nice scanner
