Getting a new hard drive

So... the one year warranty on my Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM ATA hard drive ended in August, and now the drive is reporting thats its "failing". So, its time to buy a new hard drive... its also time to jump to S-ATA...

Here's the drive I'm planning to get:

http://www.ncix.co...=Western%20Digital

How does that look?

I compared it with Seagate's 120GB S-ATA alternative drive... they are both the same price pretty much, though the Seagate drive has an 8.5ms seek time compared to the WD's 8.9ms. However, the Seagate is S-ATA power only, no 4 pin and some reviews weren't that great.

Whaddaya think?

How much space do you need? Price range?

You could get one of those WD raptors. Really nice drives. 10k RPM and like 4.5 of seek time. Other wise that WD you pointed out or the Seagate are 2 good drives. If you need an SATA power to 4 pin, I think you can get those really cheap. Seagate drives have 5 year warranties and WB has 3. although I doubt you will ever have to use it.

EDIT: Turns out the Raptors have 5 year warrantie and 5.2 seek time.

Well after getting my 80GB, I was only able to fill the drive once and even then, there was a lot of stuff that I could of deleted if need be... so space isn't an issue, I'm just getting the 120GB for future proofing.

I would get a raptor, but they are pretty expensive and I'm not really too intent on doing any of that RAID stuff... I just wanna keep it simple. My price range is pretty much as much as these 120GB drives are really... when accounting for the shipping and handling/taxes.

Nice; WDs and Seagates are the only hard disks I trust...

I agree. I prefer WD to Seagate by a slight margin. I've got a 20G Fugistu or something like that. I haven't had any problems in the 4+ years I've had it.

Yeah go WD! I have 5 WD drives running in a RAID in my computer. Great drives. I have several older WD (read 850 meg drives) and are still in use in servers and work great.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. Fujitsu drives suck. I have many fail and changed a lot for friends and other people. Never get a Fujitsu.
