FLAC Files?

Ok, I downloaded some live music and I am having to deal with that damned FLAC file format again. I am all for lossless music, but jesus I hate these fucked up codecs. I have been messing around with FLAC Frontend, Winamp, dbpoweramp, and a bunch of other small programs and I can't get the damn things to decode or playback without getting wierd cryptic errors.

I rebooted and tried several times, then uninstalled and reinstalled, and tried to find the perfect settings to make it work, no luck.

Anyone have any suggestions? There's got to be an easier way of doing this.

I'm starting to think I might need to do a format and reinstall on this old box.

Put it on the Mac.

Really, I think I remember reading something a codec for it that works with just about anything (that uses quicktime I think), so it would play in quicktime, itunes, and probably 3rd party shit too, I think. If that works, you can use quicktime, or some other encoder, to downsize it to mp3's, and copy back to pc, or maybe just burn a straight cd from it (try dropping it on toast and see what happens, itunes might burn it too).

Just as I was going to burn off a cd of all the files to put on the G5, I noticed that one of the programs I downloaded for FLAC compatibility in Windows, installed a plug-in for Nero. Nero was able to play the files and burn them as an audio cd without any further work. Nice. I'm sure the mac will come in handy soon though.

Yeah, I'm using old Mac HDDs and CD drives to keep my computer ventilated - PowerBook resting on top of a monitor, that shit gets hot. The G3 towers also make nice stools/mini-ladders. I made a Valentines Day box out of an Apple II in like 2nd or 3rd grade.
