Seeing as those bastards in the northeast seem to have gotten their way again, perhaps we in the northwest should consider a serious bid for next year.

The way I see it, the northwest pretty much has three options. Portland, Seattle, or Vancouver. Of the three, I see Van as the best bet, but since I doubt that the Wraiths and other locals want a bunch of theiving asshats and others with loose morals tramping through their city, it would be a good idea to look into Portland and Seattle as well.

Seattle may not have an organised group or as much of a community as Van, but the Seattle area UE community is growing. It's certainly possible that Seattle could grow enough UE wise to become a serious contender by the end of this summer.

As for Portland, well, I have no idea about Portland. It would probably be better to hear from someone that knows the area.

Any thoughts on the matter?

damien, in all honesty, Vancouver is really the only safe bet. the UE scene is well known, and putting it honestly, Jester may just be a little more receptive of hosting an OPEX then you think.

It's possible, but I can think of a certian incident that happened at OPEX that I know Jester would loathe to see happen on his turf.

Seattle would be the one place I'd take all those "how to deal with crazy hobos" posts seriously. Damn they're thick! If a good part of the underground were accessible somehow that would be nice, but since it's really in seperate chunks surrounding blocks it's not that cool. Bunkers and stuff would be a possibilty I guess, and we could probably get Jester to climb the space penis.

I actually gave serious thought to making a bid for 95, but when I looked at it all closeley I decided against it.

First off, I didn't come up with enough good but not too secure targets here. Not everyone wants to play cloak and dagger with security or have to climb over razor wire. So having enough interesting places to propose would be a problem I think.

Second. As Damien mentioned, I'm not interested in inviting any thieving asshats to my turf. There was an incident at opex94 which pissed me off incredibly but it wasn't my place to deal with it. If it happened here like that, the thief would be lucky to leave the place himself, let alone taking anything else out from the site.

These things said, I do still keep on considering it off and on...

Now I'm sure everyone is wondering.

Who stole what and why?

I won't give all the details, but on a trip into an active site, somebody decided to take something belonging to a worker (this was not an abandonment and the item definitely had an owner). Since it wasn't my place to do anything, I instead kept on making sarcastic (and pretty funny) remarks for the rest of the exploration (I thought the one about how we couldn't leave yet since some of us still hadn't filled our bags was a good one). I ended up putting the idea into the expedition leaders mind, that the person should be spoken to, and the item should be returned. It was agreed to be returned the next day, which was at least acceptable.

I know the story Jester is talking about. The person in question stole rubber work boots.

Oh this is kind of ironic seeing this post now

Except the story is a really bad generalization of Jester's part. I forget exactly where they went into Toronto, but it was an active inflitration into some sort of industrial complex and well someone in the group saw these rubber boots I think somewhere near a desk or locker and took them right infront of everyone.

I thought it was the U of T tunnels out of a worker's locker, but I wasn't on that trip and don't know firsthand.

It was indeed the tunnels. Right next to the water treatment plant for the pool, I believe. After we left, the dumbass tried to pet Jester's dog and it bit him. Seems that Jester's dog believes in ethics just as much as he does.

All I remember is when Boffo told me the story, there was tunnels and it was industrial

The thing I hate when Jester brings up that story is the fact he uses it as ablanket example about people who steal during explorations. U of T, especially the tunnels are not abandoned and its fairly obvious those boots are used at least once a day by a worker. So he person should of realzied this and not took the boots.

But there are more abandonments than active places like this explorers go to and guess what? Thats a whole different ballgame.

And I will stop there.
