Even at my age, 41 my father just looks at me with that "I am not impressed fatherly look." I was very surprized when he saw the tattoo that I designed and had done in memory of my son. When I told him that it was not finished he gave me some really good ideas. My wrist piercing is the only other thing he has gone beyond the "look" with. All he said was "I don't want to see what that looks like after you get a long hot metal chip wrapped around it at the shop and rip it out."

I have a 16 year old daughter who I have let get a vertical industrial. Beyond her ears I won't give into anything else but her belly button. Her father hates all forms of body art so I am not fighting with him to allow anymore than that. When she is 18 she can do what ever she wants with zero attitude from me.

I never had any issue with getting piercings...i guess its the whole "they close if you want them too" idea. Ear spacing drives them insane though. The whole tattoo thing (first one in two weeks ) they were never crazy about but whatcha gonna do?

My mom thought my first tattoo was cool (Jesus with a cross in the background) but my next one was a portrait of Jesse James (the outlaw from the 1800s, I'm related to him) they were mad about that one. After that I got 2 crossing guns below him, the actual gun he liked to use and that made them even more mad. But I was 19 so nothing they could do about it.

Haha my dad is a preacher and my mom is a teacher and they met in bible school. So all 10 of my piercings are hidden. PA, 6 rung frenum ladder, nips, septum. Ive had way more back in highschool when I was bored alot at 2 in the morning and got into play piercings but once again, parents never knew. Now im going on 23 and they know about my nips from going on vacation, they were a little less than thrilled.

My father is a biker, he is tattooed but no piercings, My mother on the other hand is a body piercer by profession and has over 40 piercings. So she only got mad at me when I didn't bring her along when I got my tongue pierced when I turned 18.

I'm 36 going on 37.

My mom wonders why I got a tattoo and want more at my age.

My friends and coworkers wonder if I've got a wild streak that nobody knows about (which I do, I gave up most of the self destructive shit years ago though), the guy I work pretty much exclusively with wonders what the hell is wrong with me because I still wear my upper ear piercings and wear odd jewelry (see my recent acquisitions of a red jade dragon pendant, sterling silver bone bracelet and silver/gemstone biker rings, along with my biker boots).

Add that to the technophile attitude I have when it comes to computers, cellphones and other electronic devices and that for a woman, I know how to turn wrenches at work and usually can figure out what's wrong with stuff easily and fix it and I pick locks as a hobby...

Nobody knows what to make of me.

My mom was a housewife, my late father was an air force NCO for 30 years and a staunch baptist, which means no piercings or tattoos, my stepdad worked in a paper mill, where I now work, for almost 40 years.

About a month ago I got a tattoo and didn't tell my parents until afterward. It was my second tattoo, so when I told them they were a little upset, but the next day they accepted it. About a week ago I got my nostril pierced on vacation, also didn't tell them until afterwards but they didn't yell at me at all for it. I'm pretty impressed that my "rebel streak" isn't fazing them at all. I'm 18, two tattoos, 7 piercings.
