Myths that they were not allowed to prove

Hey,
After watching myths like how to get around the breathalyser while drunk and how to evade police radars I started thinking. What if the myths were actually true (hypothetically of course, we all know sucking on a peny won't do jack) WHat if the cops had to make them say it was busted. Imagine after proving that putting matte paint on your car blocks the radio waves (or whatever), everyone are able to evade radars. I mean they wouldn't be allowed to say you can evade the alcohol tests because everyone would do so and everyone would be driving drunk.
Anyone had the same thoughts?

On a semi-related note, I thought it was interesting they proved that eating a butt load of poppyseed bagels could give a positive drug test reading.

There's such a thing as free speech, and there's no way the cops could have forced them not to air an episode in which it proves those things true.

Occams Razor. The simplest solution is usually the correct one.

It makes no sense, scientifically, for matte paint to affect radar. So why would it be true?

I could see the cops wanting to suppress such information, but I think they would really like to find out for themselves. PD's spend a ton of money on breathalyzer and blood alcohol, law enforcement spends millions on developing procedures and testing radar equipment and radios.

If these devices can be "easily" defeated I think they would be the first to want to know about it and the first to change the technology or procedure that can be defeated.

I don't think they would bother with a cover up, they would just go to the company that makes the equipment and tell them to fix the problem or they will stop using it. They can make changes to their procedure to cover any gaps that might come along.

But, I really really seriously doubt any law enforcement officer would ever apply pressure to the MythBusters to suppress information like that.

Your right, it wouldn't be the cops. It would be the insurance companies that buy all the radar detectors.

If someone were to get ahold of some R.A.M. (radar absorbant material) the stuff used to paint the F-117, the B-2, and various other U.S,Air Force aircraft, that could reduce the chances of being picked up on any highway patrol speed radar. Flat finish paint will not do the job.

You also stand a better chance if the RAM is applied to a Pontiac Aztek. It's as angular and ugly as a F-117.

I've been feeling funny since I went in that open crypt. Not sure what it is.

I believe the correct question is - " Who wants to be seen in one?"

I remember being warned that eating breath mints can also result in an elevated reading for the breathalyzer as well.

If you can get a hold of Adam's speech at the Last Hope con 2 years ago, he fields a question from the audience about myths they couldn't air for various reasons (including the network telling them Hell No - sponsor interference and the like).
