| | | Dictionary.com says: tun⋅nel /ˈtʌnl/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [tuhn-l] noun, verb, -neled, -nel⋅ing or (especially British) -nelled, -nel⋅ling. –noun 1. an underground passage
Wiki says: A tunnel is an underground passage. A tunnel may be for pedestrians or cyclists, for general road traffic, for motor vehicles only, for rail traffic, or for a canal. Some are aqueducts, constructed purely for carrying water — for consumption, for hydroelectric purposes or as sewers — while others carry other services such as telecommunications cables. Not to split hairs or anything of course.

| | | So, obviously, I am nowhere close to being in the vicinity. However, I have just read through all 117 pages of this thread (which in actual fact, probably puts me in the outer rings of Saturn right now) and would like to thank all those involved for keeping me suitably entertained through an exceedingly dull week at work. Seriously though, really interesting stuff and some top notch detective work. In my home town of Bristol, UK, the approach really couldn't have been more dissimilar. Rather than deny that the City is constructed on an extensive network of tunnels, they kind of choose to embrace it (although, grudgingly so when it comes to the Redcliffe tunnels, supposedly used to transport slaves). They have an annual 'open doors day' where you can even tour some of these tunnels: http://www.metro.c...05398&in_page_id=9 Panoramic pics of the coal tunnels under the docks, anyone?! http://www.bbc.co....altunnel_360.shtml But here I am now in Germany.... the quest for interesting underground spaces begins afresh...
| If you do absolutely nothing, you find inner stillness, like a Slow Loris on a branch at night, thinking about thinking. |
