Torrent Download Speeds

I know I must sound like an idiot to you computer-geniousses, but I just cant get my fucking torrents to go fast!

I have 2.5+ Mbit broadband and I still never get up to any higher speeds than maybe 30-26 Kb/s IT SUCKS! And I have no firewall connected, and I have opened slots in my router.

Someone told me setting my upload speed to unlimited would make it go faster. Is this true? I see people downloading the same file I am at over 200 kB/s. Is there a certain version of bittorent they use? I am using BitTornado.

Ive got 3+mbit broadband myself and can max 'er out at close to 1mb/sec with certain seeds. I usually set my U/L to about 40kb/s, keeps a good recip going and just floors my D/L speed. Try that.

Recently, I'm also having problems with torrents. The problem seems to have developed out of nowhere... I used to download torrents at a max of 300kbp/s, now... I'll let the screenshot do the talking.

That speed is actually the fastest the torrent has downloaded today. Look at the number of seeds and peers! Thats a lot of people, which should be a lot of speed. Grr. This torrent has been downloading for days now, ridiculous.

Yeah, I had about 40 peers and about 20 seeds today, and they all were getting 200-300 downstream, and i was getting 20.

Are you on a LAN?

If you are, set up port forwarding, and you should get faster downloads.

Click here for some more info on port forwarding.

That's probably the problem, I think stealthy sorta hinted that with the router/port issues. Using What he told me I got it up to about 50 kB/s but I'm gonna try and directly connect cause no one in my family is gonna be using the network for now.

Wow, the direct connection really worked, thank you Jesus! Now it's killing my bandwidth cause I'm running 2 downloads and they are both at about .9 MiB/s. oh well. It's give me something to do in class tomorrow!

Yeah, port forwarding on a lan will help. Also if you setup your ports to be non-standard ones, you can get around any (most) bandwidth throttling that your ISP might be applying to bittorrent.

alright now for burning....

I have a Video_TS folder and I want to burn it to a cd. Nero wouldn't let me so I'm using ImgTool Classic 0.91.5 and DVD Decryptor.

My settings:

You give it (the source directory field) the directory that Video_TS is in. NOT the Video_TS directory.

ok, that's what I had at first and it starts to create the image and then it gives me an error that says that says the file is bad. I was just wondering if i was doing something. I apologize for my stupidity.

Back to bandwidth for a moment, did you disable your router's firewall? And like Macsbug said, some ISP's will limit bandwidth on standard BitTorrent ports, so you might want to change them.

That is *never* a good idea, so I'd like to know what you're getting at with such a dangerous suggestion .

My torrents were never fully connected and remained in "yellow" all the time. I use Azureus, so I did the router/firewall check. It failed, so I disable my router's firewall, and now it works.

So long as you have a firewall running on your machine, you should be fine.
