So I got a Dell Inspiron 7000.... it has decent specs for a free laptop. I've also got some real cheap ram on the way and i'm getting a hard drive from a friend.
300mhz PII 64 mb ram (soon to be 256) 2gb hd (soon to be 30gb) Decent ATI graphics... 3 hours battery
It runs Mandrake 10.1 and Ubuntu pretty well in it's current shape, but I hope that with some new ram and a beefier hard drive I should be able to get Win2K pro up and running without incident.
I think it'll make for a nice travel luggable.
But- should I play it safe and install Windows 2K, or go all out and try and put XP on it? I would use some flavor of linux, but I'm just too lazy.

You'll probably have an easier time with XP, better native support for most of the hardware. The overhead isn't that much different. 256MB should run XP just fine.

yeah, i ran xp on a slightly better laptop, but its like completely fucked, no enter key, battery broken, keyboard broken, usb/ethernet/card inputs broken...kind of sucks.
Shut the fuck up and ride that fucking Couchmobile!
