Call me old fashioned but I don't get the whole contemporary thing. I like the look of simpler old styles (ranging anywhere from saltbox to prairie but not victorian). Anyway, your friends house does look nice as far as planning goes and I'm sure it'll turn out great, but we all have our opinions, if we didn't then the world would be a big KB Homes neighborhood.

I didn't either till I took a 20th Century Architecture class. When you learn about the thinking behind the guys starting the international style in the late 1800 its pretty interesting. Le Cobusier was the first guy to really make a mark with the modern style. Google some of his stuff, him and Mis Van Der Roe (spelling might be different).

nice house! i love past architecture, but i also think that modern has something to say too. I wish the architects (me in first place) would be able to put love in what they do, it's the only way to make something good. Le Corbusier had interesting ideals, the pity is that most of the architects that came after him used his ideals to justify horrible things as this:

But there are many architects that don't think only at money and still do lovely homes, although modern.

Mies Van der Rohe, sorry to be a pedant but i do architecture and i love modernist buildings, they'll certainly make interesting abandonments when the next phase comes around.
