fuken guy.. damn exkal, when are you going to learn that you wont get anywhere in life when you burn your bridges to all the friends you had who had connections to possiable jobs? i wouldnt be surprised if exkal is out on the street in the next few months, because as far as i know, back when he still talked to his friends, and we were trying to help him out.. he was already missing rent payments, while still had a job.. now that hes unemployed.. i can only imagine.

and so he goes and blows off all of his friends except those that let him drive around their car... and the only reason he did that as far as I can see, was because he didn't like us telling him that things had to change, and offering suggestions or chances for him to get good deals on apartments or offer him good job interviews..

damn guy, i really feel sorry for ya.. but, you can only help yourself at this point.. and its not looking too good from what i can see.

I just heard back from him, so he's not totally missing. I only had to send simultaneous PMs and emails from multiple accounts

The worst part is, I keep forgetting what my phone patch frequencies are! My parents have a private radiophone at home, and I've always wanted to whip out a huge DTMF handheld in the mall or someplace that people are being dicks on their cellphones. Every time I manage to get ahold of Mike, he's forgotten the freq list I gave him and I can't remember the offsets and whatnot... Fortunately I found them in an old PM!

If you dont mind you can always post them on here. I dont mind seeing as I had to go stay at his house to get mine programed. If I knew how to do trunking I'd program some radios.

I'd do my own programming, but I fucked up building a RIB board

If you're really interested I can dig up the channels again, it's just two sets of UHF frequs (uplink and downlink on two channels, we could probably use the 2nd channel for duplex but we don't have the gear for it). Basically there's a Motorola radius with DTMF hanging next to our VHF and CB (and Army field phone for the oldschool ghost town phone system!). Then there's a yagi up in a tree, and in Juneau we've got a pair of Radius's hooked to a phone line sitting at a friend's business with an antenna up their tower. We have two radios in town so we can run semi-duplex and force control tones from home (like when you want to hang up on long-winded telemarketers).

It works most of the time, occasionally the town end will get the transmitter stuck and shut down due to overheating, and certain hold music makes it hang up. It's also hard to flirt with girls or order christmas presents over the radiophone, since it's always a speakerphone! We got a cell phone a few years ago, but we're in a dodgy spot for reception, so we need an amp and external antenna for those too. We also got Satellite internet recently, but it's too laggy for VoIP. Previous to all this we used VHF marine operators (an interesting system that got killed off by cell phones), an old commercial party-line radiophone system, and waaay back when, the government radio of the guy who did NOAA weather forecasts (I think I have that old radio in a box somewhere now, along with some illegal AM trancievers). Basically everything except amatuer, which we could do now since there's a repeater on the mountain nearby.

Despite all this exposure to communications technology, I'm still an apathetic and incompetant ham who never talks to anyone or does much with my gear

BTW, I'm actually in Minneapolis at present (grad school), but I still use that phone system when I'm home for the summer. It would be fun to use on my sailboat, and as a ghettophone in public places as I mentioned

Hey, I'll trade you an old laptop for a working RIB

I've heard older hardware is better for RSS for some reason. I should still have some old 286 clamshells lying around at home someplace.

Okay, here's the deal.

I havnt disappeared, I just hardly use UER, I don't have an internet connection.

My employment is nobodys business but my own. I have more $$ coming in right now than I did working full time. Freak - we talked the other day, I have sent you an email for the details. Skelly - since I'm hardly around ill get yours to RW as he sees you a lot more than I, if that's alright?

I don't know how true it is, but when I hear a few people threaten to call the RCMP...that's not cool...not to mention that they wouldn't do anything (its not their department).

That MSF isn't mine anymore, its been sold so you can't hold it "hostage", I'm trying to be good about it, you and grinthoock already screwed me over twice to get it...so we'll leave it at that. If Skelly is fine with it, ill give you his radios, I get the repeater back.

I don't appreciate the personal attacks and while I know you're just trying to help, I'd appreciate others staying out of my affairs

To answer the question, generally you only need a slow computer to program older radios. I use a Pentium 133 and I've never come across a radio that I couldn't program (exceptions being an MCX1000 and HT50...those are going to need at LEAST a 286, if not an 8088). You can get a program called "MO-SLO", it basically chewes up your computer's processor with lots of loops and such to make it work as slow as an 8088. I've had mixed results though, as RSS uses timing based on clock speed so you'll have mixed results - I don't use it.

Also, you MUST use PURE DOS, at least V5.00. A DOS box in Windows DOES NOT work...some have managed to get it to work but are you willing to risk turning an expensive radio into a paperweight? Even if you just boot onto a disk, or a USB stick. One shop has a bootable CD with DOS 6.22 and all the RSS they use.

Well, I was frusterated with the whole situation thats all. I never intended to call any law enforement really.

Yes, go ahead and get the radios to RW and I will get them back from him somehow.
