CPU Speed Program

Hi everyone. New to this section of the boards . . .
I'm buying a computer game (Sim City 4), but I've heard it has a problem with lag and using up system resources. I passed all the requirements, some I even got reccomended status, but I don't know my CPU speed. I have a Windows ME ()
, and they don't let you find it out. Even when you're booting up it doesn't display. Can you reccomend any free programs to figure it out? I'll probably have the proper speed for that too, it says 500 MHz minimum, 1 Ghz reccomended, and I know I have a Pentium IV. But it would still be nice to know just how fast it is.

Thanks Particle_Man. Oh, and it's a Pentium III I have, the IV was a different computer.

Aye, that it does, but my spending money's a little short to afford a new one in the near future. Hopefully sometime after Christmas we'll get a Windows XP (possible used). Where did you get it for free anyway?

Edit: Oh yeah, and the speed (internal clock) is 897.27 Mhz. Not too bad, for what I use it for.

I run XP pro on a 425MHz, runs fine, specially while playing sims and using AIM.

XP will be just fine on that system if he has enough RAM. XP depends much more on the amount of RAM and the speed of the hard drive then the CPU.

Exactly. I used to run XP on a PII 333, but the sucker had about 400mb of ram (a good amount for that time) and a 40GB 7200 rpm WD drive. Tt was slow to load, but was still worth it.

EDIT: Re-arranged quote order.

I have 256 Mb RAM. I'm not gonna spend money on a new os right now. Once we buy our new computer, I'm going to make this one a Nix machine.

XP will run ok on that system if all the fancy crap is turned off and the services.msc is tweaked for performance.

I ran it on a 380MHz K6-2 with all the fancy crap turned on. It was only a bit slow just doing normal Windows stuff. I do agree though, Windows 2000 is also a good operating system.

SimCity 4 works fine
Which I'm glad for, as I've never had too much luck with Maxis games. I can even run it on medium graphic performance.
