Ok this is what im doing. I have a Windows XP pro box (current system). When my new PC is done, which will ethier run xp pro or OS/2 warp 4.51. I want to put a 10/100/1000 NIC in my old pc and new one. Then use I think patch cable made for gigabyte and connect both pc's. So my internet will be through my old pc. Is this possible? Can I use my old PC HDD through it (Put a HDD icon in my computer, or Menu in OS/2)? Also with norton pro running on my old pc will it protect my new one?

As long as the old one has two NICs, you can make it into a router, yes.

Depends what you use for the routing software... There are dozens of configurations where it would work, and dozens where it wouldn't...

Also with norton pro running on my old pc will it protect my new one?

No, not unless it's a server version, and I wouldn't trust it and Windows as a router even if it was.

If you already have a router, you should just plug a dirt-cheap 10/100 line to the router and run a separate crossover 1000 line to the other computer so you don't need to make it a router and all that stuff.

If you don't already have a router, then your best bet is probably to setup a small linux system with SAMBA.

As I said, since I thought you already have a router - Just cross the 1000 lines between those two and use a different line to access the router. Simplest and cheapest.

Like so:
