Wallbridge House in Newcastle is one step closer to gaining heritage status. Or it could be swiftly demolished anytime. The developer, Dunbury Homes, is potentially willing to donate the house to Clarington so that it may be preserved as a heritage house. The house recently served as the Dunbury Homes sales office but is now rotting away on its Highway 2 lot (just east of Arthur Street). The house was built in 1818 or 1819, making it one of the oldest houses on its original foundation in all of Durham Region.

Thanks for posting that fedge!

Try to sweet talk the developer. Maybe the lot the house is sitting on could be bought and the house incorporated into the new neighbourhood.

Perhaps with a sound plan, the developer may be willing to go for it. Just get as much political will up as possible and with luck the house may be around for a long time yet.

Gone for a while. Be back when I'm back.
