I've used both tightvnc and realvnc. Both are good. Realvnc is pretty easy to use but is somewhat of a bandwidth hog.

RealVNC has no display mirrioring driver and no good codecs (should not be used)
TightVNC is ok but compared to UltraVNC has no heavy encryption, no integrated Windows authentication, seperate display mirrior, no FileTransfer (stable), no Viewer Toolbar, no JavaViewer with FileTransfer, automatic autoscaling and serverside scaling (so you can even use a PDA without problem), no Multiple Monitors support, no Repeater/proxy support, no singleclick or helpdesk packages, and no Text Chat.

I want to be able to able to access my files from school and possibly use firefox through my home computer. I have a copy of UltraVNC server on my computer at home, but can I install a copy of the viewer to a flash drive? And how exactly do I logon to my server at home. I can't seem to figure out my username, and for host do I put my IP address? and then the default port(5900)?

1) If the client computer has Java installed, simply use the built in JavaViewer - http://ultravnc.so...es/javaviewer.html

2) Anyway, if they are so incredibly stupid as to allow users to use their own unchecked removable media (and even install drivers for them to be able to do so), then yes, you can put it on a USB drive.

Username? Right-click the VNC server icon in your system tray - Unless you're using MS-Logon (Windows-integrated logon) there *is* no username... and you shouldn't be using that on external networks.

Yes, "host" means "computer" - give either your DNS name (if you have one) or IP.

The port is 5900 for VNC or 5800 for httpVNC unless you've set them otherwise.

1) I don't think we have java. unfortunately.
2) Yes we are allowed to use unchecked media. I run firefox of of my usb stick as I am fed up with IE at school.
