Hey,
So yah I have always been interested in how these things work, and a few years ago read all about it. As such, that was a few years ago.

Nowadays I dont know how these things work, as far as getting free programming and all. I just had a dish receiver and it didnt have a card at all....

So what I would like to know is, where can I find reliable info these days? All I can seem to find is scam/spam sites...as is usual.

Of course I have no desire in doing anything illegal....and so on and so on..

If you really don't want to do anything illegal your best bet might be to call the company...though they give receivers away like they're free, so that probably wouldn't save you any money.

As far as hack/modding such devices you might want to look at yahoo groups. I'm am member of a few groups there about Tivo, ReplayTV, Garmin GPS and other such device hacking. Seems there's a group for pretty much anything.

Look in the back of popular mechanics, they usually have equipment and stuff. Thats where my uncle bought some cable chips for his cable box. But I've seen sattelite equipment and such.
