This is a thread for people to discuss the old Nintendo Final Fantasies (I - VI).

I actually spent the better part of my morning looking for ROM Dumps of II - VI, and finally found them. I got the Japanese versions of FFIV and VI, as the English translations (released as II and III over here) were very watered-down. It's not that hard to find an English translation patch for them. I used the "nintendo-sanctioned" translation for FFI though, because it was easier to find than the Japanese version and from what I've read the only differences are removed crosses from churches, and they had to abbrieviate some spell names (NUKE for Flare, LIT for Thunder, etc.).

Right now I'm going into the Volcano to battle the Fire Fiend in Final Fantasy I.

Groovy!
I had a chance to play FF2 (Japanese version) via ROM, but the translation was not only horrible, but also incomplete!
It seemed like a good game tho.
FF5 was my favorite of the bunch, due to the Job feature (almost identical to Final Fantasy Tactics)
Never played FFIV tho... I heard it's STILL about $99(cad) to buy the cartridge in Canada!

Haha! Class change!

Knight, Ninja, a White Wizard and a Black Wizard. Friggin' sweet
Now my ninja is almost as good as my knight, and much cheaper. And the new spells for ma wizards aren't too bad either.

In the sky castle, but you can only meet him in one area, and it's only by chance... Tough as hell tho!

I've never run into him, but one of these days I'm going to load up a save in the sky castle and just walk back and forth on that bridge until he appears.

You haven't lived until you play with four black belts. A bit tough at first, but as soon as you can uneqip their weapons, they start whooping ass... usually around level 12 if I recall correctly. Hell, by the end of the game I don't even bother equipping Masmune.

Haha, I spent a good amount of time leveling up in the Waterfall Cave - lvl. 20! And I got 195,000G, but I blew it all on that fairy, some lvl. 7 spells (ICE3 and CURE4) and a Catclaw for my Black Wizard.

Yeah, but all that stuff is absolutely neccessary! (well, maybe the catclaw isn't, I mean, how often do you have to attack with the wizard?)

Well the amount of spells you have is much more limited in the first final fantasy compared to the later ones so it's good to have your black wizard with a reasonably decent attack power. I used to get one of the items that can be used to cast a spell and use it every turn for my wizards.

Has anyone played the GBA ports of FF1/2? I'm playing it right now on an emulator - I actually find it pretty enjoyable. They had more space on the ROM (a LOT more), so they could expand on the plot and stuff.
