So how many people here actually play D&D? (or any other dice-based RPG)
What kind of characters do you usually like to play, or do you DM/GM?

I play D&D (3.5 of course), D20 Modern, D20 StarWars, and I used to play TMNT And Other Strangeness and the Robotech RPG (both from Palladium)

My favorite D&D character is either Spellsword/Eldritch Knight (prestige classes based on being a more effective Fighter/Wizard) or Arcane Trickster (Rogue/Wizard, and probably the most versatile character in the game)

I usually DM, so I use my character as an NPC that goes along with the party.

It's all bout Rogues.. Lashers are fun too.. But yes D&D is the goodness.. I've been wanting to get a game of Shadowrun going.. but all of us know D&D best so we play that mostly...

Rogues are really fun to play too, but my sister always plays one.
I don't like magic-users too much though. Too many rules to remember (half-way through a battle: "Oh, shit! I didn't get the power crystal, and I've been using that spell all day!").

I dunno.. back in the day (2Ed) I was always a caster, we had our casters corner.. But I dunno.. just played a rogue one day and it's really more my style, it just kinda clicked.. although I always get shat on.. everyone is always taking point leaving me somewhere in mid.. people always come to a locked door and kick it in making all the noise in the world.. basically I just kinda hang back and when the shit hits the fan I laugh from the shadows.. sorta annoys me though the way our DMs write we never really have a need for a rogue..

Although for our next campaign (which I hope to have running sometime in the next few months) I should be playing a Goblin Gun fighter/smith we made the class from scratch kinda and so far I rather like it.. not completely happy with what the DM wanted it to be though

I'm playing a dwarf bodyguard in a Warhammer RPG game right now - and really enjoying it. Warhammer is a lot more grim than D&D, and the chance of dying is much, much higher than in any D&D game.

In D&D I used to almost always play a multi-classed ranger/cleric, but multi-classing back in the ol' Advanced days was pretty ridiculous. In 3rd ed. I've played battle clerics (clerics who have chosen war as their domain), and I love the 3rd ed. bard. I had a really fun bard named Sparrow who was a crack shot with a crossbow and had something like a total of +12 in perform (singing) as well as perform (lute). He was a celebrity and adventurer, and he had a tendancy to burn things. Always accidently, of course.

Magic in D&D can be as complicated or as simple as you want it. The simplest thing to do is do without components. Of course, if you choose sorcerer, I don't think they require components.

I've been an RPG nerd since 1987 (when I was 10 years old). I been playing games such as AD&D (Second Edition is still the best), Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Rifts, Shadowrun, Ironclaw, Albedo, you name it!

My favorite character I've played so far was an otter combat vehicle gunner in the Albedo RPG (an RPG based off a furry comic book series). Got killed in the very first game, though, but damn he went out in a blaze of glory.

I played Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness back in the day as well (before the stupid movies and cartoons came out), when TMNT was a black and white comic book with blood and violence all over the place. You know, back when it was good.

One of my favourite characters from that system was, oddly enough, a sparrow named Brown Wing, who had mutated an extra pair of arms and flew around toting double Ingram Mac-10's. Brown Wing bought it in a firefight at a high-class bar which was a front for mob activity, but he took everyone else out with him. It's pretty amazing what a remote pack of C4 can do in an enclosed space.

Oh my God, someone else who was into TMNT before they kiddified it!!! I also play the TMNT and Other Strangeness as well. Played a bat named Khaelush, which, Gideon, a character in my webcomic My Private Little Hell, is loosely based off of.

BTW, if you ever check out the new TMNT cartoon, it actually pays homage to the original underground comic, except without the blood and guts. Heck, at the toy isle at Wal Mart, I been seeing old familiar faces from the original comics, such as Savanti Romero, Triceratons, ect...

Now they just need to make figures of Complete Carnage and Radical...

Those stats at seventh level? Man... I think someone's a munchkin. Looks pretty fun to me - just add a Knowledge (Urban Exploration) and you're all set.

I'll run up a gen of Crossfire for comparison.

But not now.

Wow.. yer totally stacked.. something like 97 points at level one.. furthermore rangers are weak?! weak I say!!! not beefcake enough to be a fighter, not hippy enough to be druids.. *smirk*

How do you all do stats? do you roll everything or give a number that you can have? Normally we do 72 points to do as we please for a level one character.. this makes for only slightly above average characters, but nothing too overpowered..

That's cool! I did the same thing for myself with the d20 Modern rules, made a lv. 3 character with baseline assigned number stats (I think it was 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) and it turned out to be DAMN accurate! I'll post it up here when I dig it out of my binder some time.

Hmm. Missed this thread before it took a left turn into Weirdsville. I tried to make a D&D version of myself once, but I had no recognizable character class. Hopefully in about 4 years I can put Cleric on the resume, though.

Yeah, this thing's definately gone into true Uer weirdness . . .

I wouldn't translate well as a D&D character. Come to think of it . . . a Dwarven miner who builds sewers in the cities would be prett-ay sa-weet.
