That is amazing work jB! I cant tell you all the times I wondered what that place looked like. I also was chicken *#&* due to it being so close to the road. BTW...the McKay house (stone one near Ajax movie theatres) was moved from basically across the road from the Post Inn...tad more west though...

Good job. Sad though that this historic building is being allow to go to rack and ruin like some other buildings we know of.

Sadly, the owners can apply to have the designation removed. If the city doesn't reply within 30 days, then the designation is automatically removed and that would be the end.

Thanks everyone. The first floor is as yet unexplored. It's very tightly boarded up and most entrances are extremely exposed. Also, the winter doesn't offer much cover so I'd recommend waiting until the leaves can hide your presence again if you want to go for a visit.

However, if you're in the area the main entrance (covered stairs to second floor) should be a simple matter of sliding back the bolt and walking in. If you have a car just park it near the Tim's at the top of the hill and walk down. I did it in the middle of the day on a weekend and didn't get a second look from anyone so I'm not sure that it's *that* dangerous.

As for the old McKay house...(drool)...I've been having a good hard look at that place and I think the front door may be accessible. ---plan--plan--plan--

It is a shame that it's being allowed to sit and rot. Also, if you've been around there in the past few months you'll notice a new subdivision going up around it. I would argue that in situations like this, UE is actually a *public service*...recording history for the future when it is threatened by indifference.

True so true but still, be very careful. The law still sees it as trespassing which was introduced in an attempt to protect property owners from the idiots who would trash a place or get themselves hurt through their own stupidity and then sue. Of course, keeping our noses clean (no vandalism or theft) and this can be a bigger help.

The problem then becomes proving it to the cops if you're caught. If they're not to be allowed judicial powers (and I hope not) then they must arrest everyone equally regardless of the perception of the offence.

My thing has always been: can you sleep at night? does it feel wrong in your heart? Even if you get busted under such situations, ultimately, you've done nothing wrong in my eyes.

IanK1968 and I were at the Post Inn Wednesday night. As we drove by on Highway 2, two girls were walking towards the Inn with flashlights. As soon as they saw us they ran away. If those girls were from UER, it was just us, no need to run away. We tried to catch up with them but they took off like a bat outta hell. We too could not access the main floor portion. It's still locked tighter than a - whatever thing is very tight - you pick.

There's now an impenetrable chain link fence surrounding the Post Inn. I was looking forward to checking out the elusive ground floor, but, oh well...

Throw up a gallery in the DB entry - it's been needing another gallery for ages.

I haven't gotten around to pictures yet. I'm not planning on taking any until I get a better camera
