A lot of the features of webdev and firebug overlap, but it's nice to have them there. plus you can fire off functions, and check variables on the fly. You can see exactly what is being returned for ajax calls, and play with the dom.

He's learning the second tier of languages now, he's not learning AJAX or anything that advanced yet. Christ.

Once you know SQL you can code for pretty much any database software. There are subtle differences in the syntax and the available functions, but most of more common stuff is all the same.

MySQL is nice because it's free. That's why I use it for all my stuff.
